Beautiful Bed & Bre....
We have stayed here before. We love this place. The rooms are immaculately clean. The decorations & ambiace wonderful. Everything Is remodeled & new. Breakfast was delicious. Our hosts were very accommodating. There is easy free parking. It is only 1 mile to the parking garage in Salzburg. This B& B is the best place to stay near Salzburg!

Perfect Pension Ballwein!!
My husband and I stayed at this immaculate little gem for a mid-week break.
The whole experience from check in to check out was first class!!
We arrived a touch earlier than the speciafied check in time, hoping to just leave our bags somewhere while we took the oppurtunity of a beautiful day for a ride on the Untersberg Cable Car (I can recommend this highly)
But, we were greeted by Simon with a warm smile and hand shake and shown to our room. This was after Simon providing us with useful local information such as bus routes, places to eat and a general idea of the area.
The room (we were in #6) was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, and with a view of postcard quality. There is good hanging space and shelving in the wardrobe, along with a safe. A mini bar of wine, beer and soft drinks. The bathroom has a hairdryer, spare toilet roll, tissues, cotton buds and a few other essentials you may need on your trip.
The bed is very comfy, firm, a memory foam style mattress, which for us who have the same at home was perfect. The pillows are fine too, I usually sleep with two so used the decorative cushions under it to boast it a touch. I am confident though that if you needed an extra pillow it would happily be supplied if requested.
The balcony off our room provided a stunning view that you could never get tired of. Along with 2 comfortable rattan chairs and a table (with an ashtray if you are a smoker)
Breakfast the following morning was amazing, a good selection of traditional Austrian cuisine, perfect selection of teas and a good sized pot of coffee. As well as the traditional continental breakfast selection there was also scrambled and boiled eggs. Whether you wanted a small light breakfast or a few courses, there is something there for you.
Simon was joined by Daniella, his wife, for breakfast service, and along with there 18 month old daughter, they are an excellent team. Little one had a huge smile, and the cutest handshake. Daniella and Simon greeted and chatted to all the guests while keeping their service and customer relations impeccable.
We decided to head back to the Pension this particular night as football was being played in the city, and although the police presence was strong, we decided to head out of the city. On returning back we advised Simon that we would like to go to the restaurant he had advised - Simon happily called ahead to ensure a table was available for us, much easier than us trying in the small amount of German we know from listening to our teenage daughter do her homework!
Reiterhof Moos - just a few bus stops away, an absolute must. Wonderful food!
This was a surprise trip planned by my husband for my 40th birthday, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Having a clean, friendly environment to return to after a long day exploring this beautiful city made the trip even better.
We hope to one day visit Salzburg again, and if so, Pension Ballwein will be our accommodation of choice.
Thank you Simon and Daniella for helping us have a wonderful trip.
****Few handy tips****
Salzberg card is very cost effective if you are wanting to visit the Fort, Cable car, Mozart's house, have a river cruise, and use the buses as this and more are all included.
The Billa Corso supermarket, by the HanuschPlatz bus stop (you get the number 21 here to Gsenerweg stop which is right outside the Pension) and also the Spar shop underneath Mozart's Geburtshaus provide good pre packed and fresh sandwiches and also tasty pre packed salads for a cheap lunch.
Stiegl is the local beer and is quite palatable, around €1.10 a bottle in supermarkets. Around double that in the beer houses.
If you are wanting to visit the Red Bull hangar 7 - the number 10 bus from HanuschPlatz takes you to the area, get off at Krobenfeldstr and walk back away from the airport, around a 20ish minute walk to the hangar.
If you are doing this on the way back to the airport as we did, they are fine with you taking a small cabin case into the hangar. We then walked to the petrol garage and got on the number 2 bus at Karolingerstraße and this then took as to the airport.
The time tables and route maps for the bus are very self explanatory. The drivers are happy to help too.
Reiterhof Moos - mixed grill is amazing, local beers and wines too. Excellent service
Zipfer Beerhouse in the city - The 'Old Austrian' dish was very nice, and good beer too.
Don't forget about the tourist tax, around €1.50pppn.
Don't be afraid to use any German you confidently know, ours is much limited to Hello, goodbye, Thank you. But I found the Austrians were happy to hear people trying, and if all they could say was Hallo then that was fine, everyone we met spoke good English.

We spent a few days here including Christmas. Felt very well looked after. Accomodation & breakfast was fabulous. The hosts Simon & Daniela were very happy to help with any requests & attention to detail was impressive. Fond memories & would love to return one day, Julie

Gorgeous place. Traditional, m....
We loved staying here. It's a bit out from the city but the bus stop is right outside the door and will get you there cheaply on a scenic route in approx 12 mins. The bus runs every 15mins or so except on a Sunday when it's twice an hour. I can not imagine anywhere nicer to come back to at the end of a sightseeing day then to Pension Ballwein. The gorgeous rooms each have a balcony, a good size one too, complete with table and chairs and you can sit out there and look at the mountains, the Austrian houses or watch the two fat ducks waddling around down below. The breakfast is delicious, we are vegetarian but there were eggs and all manner of things to eat and beautifully presented. Daniella and Simon were just the best hosts, so helpful and informative and their gorgeous little 1yr old daughter Theresa greets the guests as warmly as they do. She was delightful. Everything was immaculate, the house is a traditional Austrian house purpose built. Has a lift. A lot of thought and care has gone into the building and it's furnishings, very tastefully done. Only complaint would be the pillows, found them too big but everything else is so lovely it really doesn't matter. Would stay here again in a heartbeat if we ever return to beautiful Salzburg. Thank you for giving us such a pleasurable and memorable stay. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Truly excellent accommodation ....
It has been a real pleasure to stay here and Simon and Daniela have been wonderful hosts. The room is spotless, well-appointed, and spacious. The couple are always smiling and happy, and nothing has been too much trouble. Our flight was delayed and I was mortified to think I would be arriving after the clearly stated deadline (which I would certainly NOT recommend to anyone). However, realising this was a truly exceptional situation, Simon waited and greeted us without complaint. Breakfast each morning has been fresh, plentiful, and delicious. Simon also gave us advice on getting the best out of our trips into Salzburg, and his advice proved invaluable, ensuring we had easy access into the city on the regular buses that pass the door. All in all, we don't recognise any of the difficulties reported by others, and give this fine establishment our wholehearted recommendation.
