I’ve been to this hotel for a short business stay and really enjoyed it. The location is great in front of the two main bridges of Geneva and walking distance from the train station. In room hammam and fireplace very appreciated. Nice and helpful staff

Not Really Great
I tried Mandarin Oriental in Geneva before and I thought I should also try the more most famous Four Seasons Milano, which along with Four Seasons Paris is supposedly the flagship properties of Four Seasons Chain in Europe.
I arrived from Lausanne by train. I was told by the Concierge that it is possible to walk from Geneva train station to my hotel. Using google map, I soon found the way to walk to the Four Seasons Geneva. Although possible, the road along the way is not even and lots of rocky pavement which is definitely not luggage friendly and I had two luggage bags with me. Something funny along the way, as I passed by the newer Ritz Carlton Geneva hotel and the friendly doormen thought I was checking in and tried to help me with my luggage. Only upon hearing that I was checking in to the Four Seasons and he looked disappointed but helpfully directed me to my hotel which is just another block away.
On arrival, the doormen helped me with my luggage and upon check-in, the customer service staff escorted me to my room. The reception almost forgot to return me my passport though.
I booked the “Loft Garden” suite and it was located on the 5th floor and is actually two conjoined rooms that the hotel split into two rooms, ie my room #515 on the right and #511 on the left.

First thing I notice is that the view is not of a garden but of a desserted backyard of the hotel. The room lacks natural light as there are a few talk tress in front. It has a balcony but strangely I have no access to it as it is locked out. The hotel explained that the balcony was not for guests due to “privacy” and “safety” concerns but but I suspect it is only available if a guests booked both rooms.
As my room is connected to room #511, the noise from the adjacent room when housekeeping was doing some cleaning can be heard. Moreover, the sound-proofing from the room and actually the entire hotel was poor, as one can hear foot steps above my ceiling, doors closing as well as the noise from ladies high-heel shoes. The fact that the air-conditioning, being old, also noisy add to the concoction of sounds. A technician did come to check my air-conditioning, only to conclude that the noise was “normal”. Later it was explained to me that the hotel was aware of the issue but can’t do much as it’s a old hotel with old infrastructure. Thankfully, it all stopped at night and I played music in my laptop to drown out the air-condition noise.
The suite itself excluding the view is actually quite nice. It’s a junior suite with a king size bed and a huge bathroom. The bathroom is definitely the best of the suite, as it features a deep sunken marble tub as it’s centre display piece, flanked by the double vanity and toilet on the right, and a steam shower on the left. The steam shower is a walk-in shower with a large overhead rainforest shower and is also a steam. Water pressure is great.
The other parts of the hotel room is not so great but still adequate for a luxury property. The work-desk is small but functional. The sofa seating in the room is great for watching TV. No welcome amenities except some chocolates and a pre-printed letter from the GM.
I did check out the Four Seasons Executive suite which has the lake view, but also no balcony with a much smaller bathroom and it cost 70% more so I decline their offer.
Common Areas and Location
The hotel location cannot be better as it is located right in front of Geneva lake, and just walking across the bridge, one is right at the heart of Rue Du Rhone which is the main shopping district of Geneva. It is also surrounded by small eateries and restaurants, which I regret not trying as their pricing is like half of that in the hotel.
The hotel has a bar and two restaurants. The iL Lago is an Italian one-michelin rated restaurant which served Italian cuisine. I ate here for breakfast and also dine here for dinner which I will review separately. Sadly, the breakfast was not great, with same selection repeating everyday and the inclusive breakfast include only one hot egg dish and anything else cost extra. Initially I was told the breakfast is all inclusive and I am free to order what I like in the menu. Then I was told pancakes will cost extra.
The bar of Four Seasons appeared to be very popular with outside guests as well as hotel own guests. The food pricing at Four Seasons is borderline ridiculous, nearly twice of what it cost in other cities. For example, a cheese burger cost CHF45, a fish and chip CHF65 etc. Perhaps this is the going rate in Geneva for meals at 5 star hotels. After all, Geneva is a very expensive city so I am not going to fault the hotel for charging what they think they can charge-. I ate a dinner ( a grilled seabass, a scope of ice-cream and a cocktail ) here which cost me CHF100 and it’s just average, probably the most expensive meal I have taken. The bar does have a winner though. The cocktail called “Driving licence” was my favorite, very refreshing and cooling especially after a long day out. The lobby of the hotel is small but cozy and decorated with a lot of floral arrangements. There are also beautiful chandeliers all over the property.
There is a Spa and a small gym on the 6th floor. To access the gym, one has to walk through the Spa and I almost lost my breath as the whole spa was scented with a fragrance so strong to the point of nauseating. Thankfully, they don’t spray the gym. From the 6th floor, one can access the rooftop bar which features great view of the Geneva lake. It was closed during my visit. Not sure why. The Izumi Japanese fusion restaurant of the hotel was also located at the 7th floor but the seating were so close together it must be very uncomfortable to dine here. Regardless I am not going to have Japanese food in Switzerland.
I did not experience any major issues with service. Staff were polite and friendly and appear eager to help. The concierge was efficient in arranging my itinerary. However, they did not tried to address some of my complaints during the stay, which were the noise issue and the inaccessibility of the balcony. To minimize the problem, the reception staff did told the housekeeping not to service the room next door during my stay.
I paid CHF1100 per night for my room and that is already including an upgrade which my travel agent secured for me. Without the upgrade, I would have paid at least another CHF200 per night more. In view of the lack of view, and noise issues, the stay was overall disappointing.
I did pop by the brand new Ritz Carlton Geneva which was just one block away out of curiosity. The customer service manager gratefully showed me around their hotel. It’s smaller than the Four Seasons but newer, much nicer finished with modern restaurants and swanky new suites, featuring panoramic view of Geneva lake with balcony and better finishing for almost the same price. In retrospect, I should have chosen to stay here instead.
The Four Seasons Geneva is not a bad hotel. It’s just very old and in desperate need of renovation. Even the guest lift shakes everytime I took it to goto my room. Overall 3 out of 5 and I will give it a pass. And for the price charged, there are definitely better value for money elsewhere.

geneva stay may 2018
On a business trip stayed only for one night but as always at this hotel the experience was flawless..
Although on the expensive side it is always a pleasure to spend time at this hotel.

I love flowers and here there are plenty of. SO CLASSY place. EXELLENT Service. ... u Really del they look after u. Has a Very good meal at The bar .... personel is so professional.... prices are in line with The place. So dont expect to be .... well treated without paying .....a decent amount. I’ll sureste be back. Loved it !
