Our splurge hotel in Italy

We found Il Salviatino on Mr and Mrs Smith and so far we are 2 for 2 with their suggestions. Great views, wonderful service, beautiful property. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it. Short shuttle ride from central Florence runs from morning until 8pm. At first we were worried we might be too far outside the city but this wasn’t the case. In fact, it was nice waking up and having the hotel’s wonderful continental breakfast on the patio with an amazing view of the city 5 miles away. My only complaint is that our shower leaked and got water all over the bathroom floor. Not really a big deal, it just required some extra towels. Also, the pool is very nice. It isn’t heated but it was very refreshing on the hot afternoons we were there. Try to get there early if you want to reserve a sun lounger. Seats are limited and first come first serve but the pool staff is especially gracious and accomodating. They want to do everything for you so just kick back and relax, enjoy the Tuscan sun, the jasmine scent blowing in the breeze and the delicious cedar/lemon incense the pool staff burns on occasion.

Wonderful wedding venue!

My sister got married in the beautiful gardens here and every aspect of our extended family holiday was perfection. The property has been newly renovated with every suite beautifully appointed. The staff could not be more helpful out with our 30 strong family booking. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

A renaissance dream

We stayed at Il Salviatino recently and it was everything we could have hoped for. The hotel is gorgeous. Our room had a lovely view of the garden and the city of Florence in the distance. The staff was friendly and helpful. Waking up in the room was like being in another century except that every modern convenience was available- a TV located inside the mirror, a huge shower and lovely bathtub. There was excellent lighting and a very comfortable bed. There was bus shuttle service to Florence throughout the day although we decided to stay and enjoy Fiesole. They have happy hour in the beautiful bar from 5-7pm- which mean half price off listed drinks. Fabulous bellini cocktails! Only downside is that it is a 20-25 euros taxi ride to the center of Fiesole. Wish the shuttle service was offered to there too.

Understated elegance with mode....

I stayed with my now Fiance in early April for 4 nights at Il Salviatino. The hotel and grounds were absolutely incredible and very well maintained. The breakfast buffett was okay but slightly lacking in my opinion, the spread more than adequate to sustain you until lunch however (the coffees were lovely). The staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough to be off assistance, I actually proposed here and they were very helpful on the morning of the proposal. The rooms were lovely however the air conditioning didnt go quite as cold as I would like. There was no minibar, however they were snacks which you could purchase if required. Room service food was lacking in taste and the menu was also lacking however it was nice to have the option. The shuttle service was very handy (there is a break in service for two hours during Lunch time). You can expect to spend 20-30 euros getting a cab from Central Florence (Piazza di Firenze). Would I stay there again? Yes for the lovely grounds and elegant villa and rooms however there are other centrally located hotels with similar charm I would like to try next time. Overall 8/10.

A quick break for two

My wife & I spent 3 last minute nights here. Had never been to Florence before and our first impression could not have been better as we drove up the long windy drive. Hotel in a great location just 10 minutes from the city center. The hotel and setting is magnificent and to get a room upgraded upon arrival was a nice touch! The room we were given was a family room - had a tiny spiral staircase (i was only just able to clime the stairs) up into a mezzanine room that to be honest, had my kids been with me, would have been to afraid to sleep in. I guess this was an original feature of the house but not sure what the point of it was. The room also had a giant projector screen in place of a TV - couldn't get he projector to work and took the hotel 24 hours to replace the projector with a different one.. Not that it mattered - nothing to watch anyway! Always wondered why European hotels didn't put more effort into the media offering... The room was clean, tidy, pretty and comfortable. Nothing really to complain about but couldn't tell you it was the most amazing room I had every stayed in... typical Italian hotel room...if you get my gist. Anyway, staff were hugely helpful; especially concierge who arranged a walking tour guide for us as well as a trip to a winery out in the countryside. breakfasts were lovely but not necessarily conducive to eating outside - had to walk through two rooms to get outside and then around the corner to a proper dining table. I feel like I'm knit-picking and thats because I probably am. We loved the hotel and when we walked down to the swimming pool - W.O.W. !!! What a beautiful setting.. we chose this hotel as wanted to be able to take time to relax as well as explore and loved the idea of sitting by a pool with a view. the test of any hotel - would I go back? YES unequivocally.
