I stayed here on business for just one night and it was very comfortable, clean and ideally located. The room I had was basic but large with 3 single beds and 1 double bed which was a bit over the top for a single traveller but still appreciated. Breakfast was included which was standard continental breakfast. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The location was right next to the main train station in Hamburg and in a busy area of the city which was great for sight seeing and getting around. Not a luxurious hotel, but clean, comfortable and well placed.

Old World Charm!
Room was small for 3, but it was more than adequate for a one-night stay. Gotta leave your key with the front desk when you leave during your stay. Very tiny elevator. Very quaint. Would stay here again. Breakfast was quite adequate. Very close to train station. Easy access to Underground.

I only stayed one night at Novum Norddeutscher Hof, and for one night, it was quite a pleasant place to stay. The location is ideal, only a few minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof and very close to the old city center. The hotel rooms itself are okay - quite small and basic, but clean and with an okay shower. Breakfast was rather simple and there wasn't much choice.

I had a hard time choosing a hotel in Hamburg; there's usually one or two which look to be noticably better value than the others in the 3-4* range, but I didn't find it this time. Novum Hotel Norddeutscher Hof was what we settled on, mostly due to its location. It is less than a five-minute walk to Hauptbahnhof, and is surrounded by bars, restaurants, and museums.
The hotel itself is fine, but like I say, not as good value as we've found in other European cities. It's relatively small and looks like a refurbishment would do it some good. The room was quite pokey and bland to look at, which might be fine for one night but we usually prefer something more modern and spacious for a five-day stay. In any case, these are superficial comments to make, because what's important is cleanliness, and everything was clean. The room also had all the amenities I'd hope for - a hairdryer, tea/coffee facilities, a TV, and a nice en suite bathroom - but no air conditioning.
Breakfast was also fine; the food tasted nice, but the selection was exactly the same every single day. As Brits we'd call it 'continental', and it may just be that continental breakfasts are low on opportunities for variety. If there was a bar, evening meal service, or other dining/entertainment facilities, I did not find out about them over the course of the stay.
Checking-in and out was straightfoward; the staff were professional and the luggage room was free to use. On the whole I'm not sure if I'd recommend this hotel for a stay longer than a couple of days. Based on the photos on websites like TripAdvisor, I think it's par for the course for this price-range in Hamburg.
