Review In Summer

Overall, the hotel was good. The staff was very nice and helpful, the hotel was also clean, tidy and neat. The only thing i felt that can be improved was the lack of airconditioning. I went during summer and the weather was scorching. But luckily there was a fan. Otherwise i would have imagined it was impossible to sleep soundly. Location was ok. If i walked fast, it would take about 8-10 mins to walk to the State Opera House. There is however a tram / bus stop just outside the hotel (provided you have a valid ticket and know transport system works in Vienna) A casual slow walk would probably take 15 mins. During the cooler season, i would imagine this to be more tolerable.

Don`t look any further than th....

Just come back from a 5 night stay. Having read previous review we upgraded before we arrived to room 520 which is at the back. It was only an extra 10 euros a night and well worth it. A good sized room and we could leave the window open and kept the fan on. No street noise. We asked for tea/coffee in advance which was nice. Maid service was spot on. TV channels limited, but you don`t go to Vienna to watch TV ! The breakfast was excellent. We went at different times and had no problem in getting a table. Especially liked the sparkling wine and fresh orange to kick start the long days!! We also had no problem with the lift, despite being on the 5th floor. You must also say high to Terry the Turtle in reception- he has his own tanning light! The Spar is only a couple of minutes away and the hotel didnt mind us bringing back our own wine and snacks after a long day. Its cheaper than raiding the mini bar. Reception said the restaurant would open the cork and supply ice. Our only negative experience was when we ate in the attached restaurant. We didnt book admittedly, but they had empty tables. The obnoxious head waiter signalled to the other waiter that no tables were free and so was led to the breakfast area. We were the only ones in that part so complained. They then put us on a table in the main part with other diners. He was curt with me earlier when I asked for my wine to be opened from the Spar- perhaps he just didnt like that. The meal we had was the best from the whole trip. We would have gone back but for that one waiter. The tram is just outside and underground a short walk also. Get the day pass or longer if you are going to use public transport a lot. We purchased a 3 day Vienna pass from Tiquets website as we found it cheaper than the Vienna pass website. Just compare yourself. As well as the usual, make sure you do the Time travel, spanish horse training, Kaisermuelen, and the green line. So remember, if your thinking of going to Vienna then stay at the Hotel Erzerzog Rainer.

Can recommend a very nice hote....

Great stay, very good service, fantastic breakfast. Unfortunately not aircondition in my room, so a bit hot due to very warm weather, but overall a great hotel, good location and nice atmosphere. I can recommend this.

Elegant gem of a hotel

I chose this hotel because of family precedent - my grandmother grew up in this neighborhood and stayed here in the 50's when she returned from the US for a visit. I wasn't sure what to expect but I am so glad we stayed here! It has character and breathes history from its pores. Very refined and stately without being stuffy. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the restaurant is very good with an exceptional breakfast buffet that was the best in our entire tour of Austria! The best thing about the hotel is its location; tucked quietly away from the crowded touristy area but within a short walk of major sites like the Opera House and the Karlskirche with shops and restaurants along the way. The room was larger than I expected and the bed was very comfortable. Highly recommend!

Very central and close to main....

The breakfast was exceptional and rooms clean and well appointed. Only concern would be traveling in warmer weather as there is no air conditioning. It is a bit odd having to turn key at front desk each time you depart hotel, but also felt very safe and secure in the hotel and neighborhood.
