Impressive stay

We went there in March 2018 to hit the slopes a couple of days. We were picked up by the concierge at the train station and after check in were showed our rooms. The room was very spacious, had a sitting area enough space to hang your clothes. The beds were very good and slept well. The bathroom was modern included all amenities. The service of the personnel was outstanding. During breakfast coffee, tea and eggs were available and made if you wanted to. The choice of the breakfast buffet was also very wide and quality was high. The staff at reception were able to sell ski-passes which eliminated standing in line for it at the gondola or train station. The bartender at the bar was really friendly and make fantastic GT's. I used the gym at the Mont Cervin Hotel (3 min walk) once. If you want to you could also use the spa and swimming pool there. The Monte Rosa does have a ski room with lockers for ski's and heater for shoes and helmets. So overall we had a fantastic stay. Zermatt is a great place and this hotel (with all its history and quality) is one which I would definately recommend.

Excellent hotel in Zermatt cen....

This was our second visit. Our superior double was spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed with the usual luxuries expected of hotels of this class. The public rooms are also comfortable, and have an historical ambience with many historical photographs and memorabilia. The hotel is situated approximately in the centre of Zermatt, about half way between the railway station at the end of town and our favoured lift system to Furri and beyond - about 600 yards each way. This means that its location is excellent for restaurants and shopping, but not so convenient for the lifts. You can of course walk (not so inviting when skiing), get the bus (say 150 yards,) or more expensively one of the ubiquitous Zermatt electric taxis, quickly and easily available, but expensive at 10 or 12 Swiss francs. The hotel electric car is available for arrival and departure, and collection and delivery of luggage if you use the air-rail system, and also for emergencies such as visits to the doctor. Otherwise, as we were told, whether it and an employee are available or not: "we are not allowed to use it for transport to the ski lifts." This in a way seemed characteristic - and a change from the past (we have been going to Zermatt for 40 years.) The hotel is part of the Seiler group, and appears to have no or limited autonomy - the decisions being made by some accountancy oriented chap at group level. This came through in many subtle ways, some of them admittedly trivial. Despite the hotels advertised British heritage, and many anglophone guests, the newspapers provided were usually Swiss, German and French, although the New York Times was occasionally available. Strange policy and poor touch. The service however on the whole is excellent and highly professional - but somewhat in the impersonal manner of being part of group. There are some older charming staff around, but they seem marginalised. Breakfast was lavish, but due to continuingly unrepared malfunctioning of the warmers, even at 7.40 the buffet scrambled eggs and bacon were cold. To be fair, on our commenting on this, we were offered freshly cooked food. Consistent with the underlying impression of a prescriptive rule driven system, every single morning we got the same not quite sufficient pot of coffee. True again, we could order more, but (so it seems) the pleasant staff were not allowed to give us a larger pot to start with. We had one evening meal in the somewhat noisy Edwards bar. The food was good but the service was very slow. We witnessed a couple being turned away for lack of room - fair enough, but this took place after they had been seated for about twenty minutes, and they were not well pleased. Two reasonably willing and friendly, but not super efficient waters seemed insufficient. Accountancy economies again?

Return visit after 28 years,......

Wonderful memories from my last stay at the Monte Rosa in '91 were reinforced by a delightful recent visit. The staff were super, attending to everything we could possibly need. I missed the dinners that used to be available in the charming dining room, but the array of options at local restaurants easily made up for that. Breakfast was as I remembered it. Looking forward to next return visit, hopefully sooner than the last gap. Love the Monte Rosa!

Wonderful

Location, Service, Atmosphere, Breakfast. We stayed at 404 and we had a little balcony, facing the main street of the village...we loved that. The balcony was at the bathroom..... we preferred of course if the balcony was at the bedroom... ): Anyway it's a wonderful hotel ! You can't get wrong ! Yael, Israel.

Wonderful Boutique Hotel in Ze....

Amazing staff, confortable room, great localization, excelent breakfast! I’m coming back for sure. Zermatt is a small village in the middle of mountains, an excelent place for snow sports, and the Monte Rosa is one of the first hotel in the city. The hotel staff are excellent, attentive, polite and well trained to help you with whatever it takes. Difficult to find a level of service with this level of excellence.
