Third time staying at Europa P....
This is the third time we have stayed at the Europa Palace. We stayed there in 2007 & 2012. It is in an excellent location as it is a short walk to the centre and also to the railway station. It is situated on a cliff overlooking the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. We had the same room, 208, on the three visits. It has a small balcony and has stunning views of the bay and Vesuvius. It isn't the cheapest hotel in Sorrento and you pay a premium for a bay view. We feel it is worth it and after reading some of the other reviews we wouldn't have wanted to be at the front of the hotel which is on a busy, noisy main road. The hotel is quite quaint and some would say dated. However, it is very clean. Our room was large and had a large bathroom too. The safe is free, as it should be, and so is wi-fi. The wi-fi was ok but not brilliant. We had breakfast and dinner here in the past but only breakfast this time. There are so many excellent restaurants in Sorrento that there is no need to eat dinner in the hotel.. The breakfast has most things you would expect in a 4* hotel and sitting on the terrace with such good views is brilliant. The breakfast staff could be a lot friendlier. The breakfast is let down by the 'hot' food. You do not expect to have a full English breakfast in Italy but what was on offer was poor. As not may people ate the hot food on offer it had often gone cold. The hotel need to look at this. Also, on some mornings the tables weren't cleared quick enough and you had to wait for one to be cleared. Drinks and snacks at the hotel are expensive. The hotel has a lift that goes through the cliff to a swimming pool and a jetty where you can relax. Whilst we were there in May there were plenty of beds and umbrellas too on the jetty. I would have given the hotel 4.5* if I could but we would certainly go back to the Europa Palace if in Sorrento.

Efficient base close to Centre
Quite a large hotel, we were in the annex...large rooms with high ceilings. Fairly good condition and quite clean. Over attentive towel fairy who insisted on changing the towels TWICE a day!
Lovely views over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius, especially from the breakfast area on the terrace.
Breakfast was nice, staff very attentive. Evening meals were a trifle tedious so we ate out a couple of times.
Very close to busy road, and our room overlooked the road so the traffic noise was rather intrusive, however we were out early everyday on tours so it didn’t matter, but we would have been annoyed if we’d been looking for a relaxing holiday.

Beware. Annexe rooms are awful....
This hotel is in an excellent location, 200 metres from the main piazza, with stunning views from the terrace. We were aware that our room was to be in the hotel annexe but had no idea that the standard of room there would be nowhere near that of the main building. We booked this holiday through Jet2, and the room was described as having a French balcony. Our chins hit the floor on opening the door to a dark uninviting room (412) with only a dirty window, and a ledge covered in pigeon droppings and cigarette ends, and a view of a wall. We immediately asked to be moved but were told the hotel
was full. We contacted Jet2s UK helpline and asked to be moved but did not even phone back as promised.
We tried not to let it spoil our trip. The only saving grace was that our half board meals were good. Hotel staff were good other than the reception staff who were disinterested.
