No general Hutong-tour needed:....
What a great hotel! We stayed for four aprilnights in room 203 and we enjoyed every minute of it. Our room was very clean, with good beds and bathroom. The first hotel we ever encountered that offers sockets with worldplugs-possibilities including usb!
The staff was superfriendly, the menus offered a daily changing hot breakfast of very hugh quality, and many opportunities for a local or more global oriented dinner.
But what we liked most of all: the location. In the middle of the hutongs, yet very quiet and safe. The best and most authentic hutong alley we saw in Beijing, so stop buying tickets for a general hutong tour: you have the privilege of living in one!
Dear Staff of Cote Cour (including your cat??): thank you very, very much for a brilliant stay. You absolutely deserve this five star review!

Booking here was the best deci....
My praise for this hotel is endless! I stayed at Hotel Cote Cour for one week (Mar 14-21), and this trip was my first time in China. Staying here truly made me feel at home my entire trip. Also, one week is a great amount of time to truly get a feel for Beijing - you will quickly realize how large all of the attractions are in this city and how it takes a lot of time to see it all!
The hotel is located in a hutong, which is a traditional Beijing neighborhood. When researching where to stay in Beijing, I liked the idea of a more traditional setting versus a chain hotel with no character. It was fun to walk through the road during the middle of the day and see locals playing Mah Jong or walking their dogs. Please note that the road leading up to the hotel is very tight, but it is extremely safe. I read other reviews saying taxis would not take you to the front door all the time, and I can understand why with the tight road; however, I did not find a need to take many taxis with the subway being so easy and cheap to use. We did reach out to the hotel beforehand and arranged a driver to pick us up at the airport which was very convenient, and they took us to the front door. That service cost 300 CNY and the driver stood at the arrivals gate and waited for us with a sign. We also were able to pay this charge at the end of our stay direct to the hotel. To get back to the airport at the end of our trip, the front desk called us a taxi who did arrive at the front door, and the total from there was right around 100 CNY. The cost difference for the driver at the beginning was worth it to me since they knew exactly where to go and it was so convenient. We had one tour (greatwallhiking.com) that did pick us up at the front as well. As I mentioned, the subway is also very convenient. You are close to two different stations, Dongsi (line 5 and line 6) and Dengshikou (line 5). It may be a 10 minute walk to get to either of these stations. The subway is by far the easiest and cheapest way to get around Beijing. The Dongsi station is close to a grocery store as well in case you need anything. You are also not far from Wangfujing street, which besides the touristy snack street area, has a mall and lots of food options.
The hotel has so much character! The rooms face an inner courtyard with a nice water feature and lots of seating. It was chilly while we were there, but I'm sure in the summer it would be great to sit out. There is a restaurant/breakfast area upstairs. Every morning, you are treated to a wonderful breakfast where the chef makes something different each day. The food tends to be a mix of traditional Chinese dishes as well as some takes on Western favorites. Besides the hot option, there is also plenty of fruit, toast, and cereals each morning. They also provide coffee or tea (and if you like lattes, ask for the coffee with milk and it's very similar!). The setting for the breakfast area was very nice as well. We did eat dinner there the first night when we were tired after our travels and didn't want to go back out. The food was really good and presented beautifully. Prices were around 70-100 CNY per main dish, and the portions were very large. The rooms was also really nice. The bed is very firm, but I still slept well. The bathroom has a western style toilet and the shower had good pressure and temperature. We received several complementary bottles of water every day which was nice. Also, the tv did have a few channels that were in English as well (with Mandarin subtitles). Finally, I cannot leave out my favorite part of the hotel - the resident cat. I believe his name was Tao Tao. He was very friendly, and if you like cats, he will happily come up to you when called for lots of rubs.
Out of everything, the customer service and friendliness of the staff is what shines the most about this hotel. First, everyone's English skills were excellent. Every morning, the gentleman working the front desk would chat with us about our plans for the day and give us all sorts of useful advice. The first day, he mapped out exactly how we needed to get to the subway, which lines to take, how much to put on our subway card, and gave us tips on what else to see in the area. We received lots of recommendations for things to do and places to eat (take their advice on Siji Minfu for peking duck!). Every person went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy the entire trip.
Overall, staying at this hotel is what made my trip feel complete. I would recommend staying here to anyone who wants a charming hotel with a family atmosphere. Thanks again to all of the staff for a wonderful stay! Xie Xie!

An exceptional stay, beautiful....
My husband, teenage son and I are just ending our 5 nights at Hotel Cote Cour. I can not recommend it highly enough. While a bit of a splurge for us, we wanted a more neighborhood experience and this was on par cost wise with the Hilton. We are thrilled with our decision. Located in a quiet but certainly populated hutong, we had easy access to 2 metro stops (thus 2+ lines). Our large room had an extra daybed for our son and was beautifully furnished, spacious, with luxurious linens and finishings. It has been a haven to come back to. It's been chilly while here so we have been unable to use the courtyard or roof top deck which must both be spectacular in warmer weather. The dining area is beautifully curated. We ate breakfast here daily (included) which includes a bar of fruit/yogurt/cereal/toast/one warm item as well as a served plate of an egg and varying little bites of mostly Chinese style items which were a treat to try. You certainly won't go hungry. I also wanted to mention something I notice hasn't been given much attention in many previous reviews. We didn't have high expectations for dinner, but arrived later than anticipated our first night so decided to eat in. Prices were on par with most other restaurants we ate at (aside from casual dumplings, etc), and the food was really excellent! I'm pretty picky about finding good value options, and this fit the bill. You could find something less costly, but the easy quality and freshness of the dishes made this an easy choice on a couple of evenings. The menu is not extensive (unlike many places in Beijing with pages and pages of options) but we had 6 dishes over two nights and each was freshly prepared (we saw the chef and could hear it being prepared in the kitchen), beautifully presented, and plentiful. And again, served in a quiet, gorgeous space. You might want to explore as well, but please do not hesitate to try this place if staying here. Finally, we must give full thanks to the staff. Each individual was warm, genuine and helpful without ever being overbearing. They spoke fluent English for the most part, which was not our expectation, but it was nice to chat about options for what to see, where to eat, and how best to get around with local people. They really made our stay special. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would encourage others looking at options in Beijing to do the same.

We have just stayed for 4 nights, at the beginning of our tour of China. It has been a wonderful introduction, it is a small Hotel with great character and charm. It is set in the traditional narrow lanes of Being which are quiet but it is only a 5 min walk to the main streets and 10 min to the shopping areas. It is a traditional house around a court yard. The staff are so helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfasts beautifully presented and we also had a meal in the evening once both of high quality. The cat is a hotel fixture! We have now moved onto another city staying at a multinational chain, bright modern but no warmth or personal interest
