Beautiful building but.......
Having seen photos of this beautiful hotel I wasn’t disappointed when I arrived and greeted very warmly by Christian, who I’m sad to say has since left.
The glass of champagne in the beautiful bar was very welcome after my very long journey .
My company always book a double room for me but this time it had been done through an agency. So it wasn’t the fault of the hotel that I ended up in a broom cupboard with nowhere to put my clothes aside from the one wardrobe in the hallway. It was going to be far too small, and claustrophobic, to be able to work there so asked to be moved to a bigger, double room next day. The price I negotiated with Christian was in order
The next day I was moved to a huge, very beautiful but rather dark room, the heavy drapes making it impossible to wedge the French windows open. It was extremely hot, over 25 degrees that night, and to my alarm realised the air con was not working. This remained the case for the next 3 days......
Even when the air con did appear to be working my phone registers that it was still over 28 degrees at night in my room so I took to leaving it off and propping the doors and windows open
Christian and the maitre d , Mihail , as well as the girl in the breakfast room, were all delightful. However, the same can not be said for the rest and one young man in reception quite the rudest I’ve met in a long time. Without going into details he was basically incompetent and took no notice at all of any requests for assistance
On my final morning , having checked the night before that the reception would be manned for my 6.00 am departure, a bill was presented. This was not at all in the form I requested, with a clear break down of things to be paid for by my company and myself.
To say the bill was inaccurate was an understatement, with me being charged nearly £109 for 5 pieces of laundry as well as being charged well above the extra rate for the room as agreed by Christian.
It’s NOT acceptable to give the guest a list of items purchased either in the bar or restaurant without the dates of the transactions being present. Inexplicably, the price of a glass of wine varies from £5 to £7 per glass, for example when at the time there was no suggestion I was being served a ‘better’ wine
All in all this is not the place at all for the business traveller. I would like to say, because of the beautiful rooms, this would make a good place for a romantic escape but with non functioning air con and incompetent and at times rude staff I’ll not be recommending this place to snyone

Great place, really good custo....
Absolutely loved this place. Arrived a bit 'frazzled' after flight, transfer, etc and the reception staff immediately took my bags, took my booking details and then packed me off to the hotel bar for a complimentary drink whilst they sorted the room.
The room was incredible. High ceilings, great features, great bed, amazing bathroom. Floor was creaky but that just added to the old style of the room. Really well restored room and hotel.
Breakfast was very varied and good quality. The waiting staff were always on hand and happy to cook omlettes to your requirements.
Location was reasonably central and far away enough from the old town and many bar areas to avoid any noise and traffic.
Hotel overall was beautiful. Staff couldn't do enough to help you and it was a very relaxing environment. Will absolutely stay here again if I come back to Bucharest, one of my favourite ever hotel stays.

This really is a grand hotel located on a very quiet street very close to the historical centre of Bucharest. Free parking is available in the street outside the hotel. The building itself was originally owned by a wealthy banker before the communists took over and let it fall into total neglect. It has been beautifully restored and the decor and facilities are all excellent. We travelled as two couples and on arrival at the front desk were greeted by Christian who served us a champagne welcome drink at the beautiful bar. Christian was a mine of information and very helpful in helping us explore Bucharest. We had the two rooms in the semi basement adjacent to the breakfast room. These two rooms are very large and spacious more like suites and they are very quiet. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was served in the basement dining room and was excellent with staff who just went out of their way to see that you have everything you could wish for. if we go back to Bucharest this is where we are going to stay.
