Home base for experiencing Ams....
We stayed here 4 nights. It was perfectly located to travel around Amsterdam. We used the hotel bikes to get around. The breakfast was located at the rooftop restaurant which had wonderful views of the city. The hotel vibe is cool. Service was great. We highly recommend staying here when you come to town.

Loved this place, so friendly ....
My friend and I got the smallest room with one double bed. The bed itself was huge and really comfy and the room itself was a decent size, just what we wanted really! The windows are huge with electric blinds which is really nice. Cool wet room with a funky window covered slightly with newspaper so you can see each other even when you are showering. Really sound proof so didn't hear anything from the other rooms. Not even a 5min walk to the nearest metro station which is three stops from red light district and 4 from central. Or you could walk into central (think it is about 20min walk) or rent bikes, there is a bike lane outside the hotel as well. Hot tubs on top of the building as well and some cool nights but didn't get a chance to check those out. Staff are all really helpful and friendly and the food in the bar is cheap and nice too. Would definitely recommend!

You will be in for a treat.
Terrible WiFi? Check. No laundry service? Check. Several rooms with no mini fridge or frigobar? Check. Noisy as hell lobby? Check. Not even a bottle of water for you in the room? Check.
Let me get one thing straight: based on my travel needs and solely on that, this hotel does deserve a one star review. Now if you answer yes to most of the questions below, this may be the place for you:
- Age between 18 and 28.
- No kids.
- Love to party.
- Consider yourself (or is labeled by your peers) a hipster.
- Drives a BMW and only drinks Starbucks pumpkin spice latte macchiatos with decaf coffee and organic milk.
The reality here is simple. This hotel does cater to a much younger audience that will be probably too drunk, when heading back to the room, to care about little things like a good smelling pillow and bed linen, a mini fridge with cold water and being able to get a couple pieces of clothes cleaned.
I would certainly be ok with that IF and a BIG IF, I were traveling alone and paying 100 Euros a night. At 250 Euros for a room that fits four in a bunk bed and with ZERO amenities, there is no way I can recommend this hotel to anyone that does not fall in the category I mentioned above.
For this money there are way nicer places in Amsterdam where you will at least have cold water in your room and a small mini fridge that you could buy at Walmart (or a similar Dutch place) for under 100 Euros.
Save your money and trouble by not staying at the JokesHotel. I mean Volkshotel.

Great hip hotel
A great hip hotel with a cool working bar in the lobby and nice and polite staff. Rooftop bar on the 7th floor with a good city view. Rooms are really fun as well as many little notes all around the hotel.
Loved the cheese croissant and velvet cake at the bar ??
Would come back again.

The hotel is pretty cool and different with helpful staff. The views from the top restaurant/bar area are amazing.Breakfast was plentiful and with pretty good variety of items. The hottub area is also very cool! They do rent bikes which made it supper convenient. It seems to be a place where locals enjoy coming as there is a club in the building and again the views are amazing! Bit too far from the main places, need a bike!
