Beautiful setting for a hotel,....

We booked this hotel without realizing that it was a bit out of town, up a fairly significant hill. We arrived by train and had to walk to the hotel carrying our backpacks. If you do not have a car, I recommend getting a taxi at the train station as the walk would be really tough with luggage. The setting is beautiful, with a great view over the bay of Naples. Our room had a small balcony with this view. There is a large terrace area where you can eat when the weather is good and even a small "beach" reached by an elevator (the hotel is WAY up the cliff from the bay!) The breakfast is very good with your choice of several egg dishes and accompaniments, chosen from a menu on the table each morning. Unfortunately, the hotel restaurant was not open when we stayed there (it does not open until June, to our surprise).

We loved this hotel!

We were a little hesitant to book here because of some of the reviews. But we are so HAPPY we did! We are here in Sorrento for the last week of our honeymoon and this little gem is exactly what we wanted. Everyone is so nice and accommodating. Christina from the front desk is sweet and helpful. Not to mention stunning. It’s only about a 10-15 minute walk into town which is nice to be away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to walk too! The views are amazing! The balcony is ridiculous. we are from Maui Hi, so it’s hard to beat our everyday view but this place sure is up on our list! Breakfast was very good and you can order off a paper menu at your table. Definitely didn’t lack on variety. Room was small but not unbearable we just put one suitcase in the closet and made our way around the other. You do not book an old boutique hotel for the room size lol. But again, the view, epic. Our room smelled fresh every evening we got home and our room was very clean with tiled floors. Bathroom and shower are small but it’s seems to be that way in many places in Italy as we have been traveling for a month. All in all we can not wait to visit this awesome hotel again. Btw I’m sitting here on the private beach they have below the hotel writing this review. This is an awesome hidden gem and we wish we had more time here.

Lovely Hotel

We recently stayed a week in this hotel which is in a great location. We had a sea view room overlooking all of Sorrento, the bay of Naples and Vesuvius. There is a 10-15 min walk down hill into the town along a narrow pavement. At times the road was very busy with manic drivers and speedy motorbike riders so you had to be aware. The hotel was very clean and the towels were changed every day, sometimes twice a day. The rooms were cleaned and replenished and beds made everyday. Not that I was worried but we had a couple of light bulbs out and the end of the curtain was hanging down which should have been noted and reported when the room was being made ready. All rooms state that there was a safe in each of the rooms but ours didn't. The restaurant was not open for dining, but not sure if that is this case for high season months which was a little disappointing as we had to go to surrounding hotels or walk into town every night. Reception staff were very helpful and Lorenzo who served the breakfast every morning was very pleasant and helpful. Overall we had a very pleasant stay in a lovely unique hotel, unfortunately they need to improve on providing more on their lunch and dining service which wasn't really evident as they could make so much more use of that beautiful terrace overlooking Sorrento - get that right and I would return without hesitation.

UNPROFESSIONAL, CANCELLED OUR ....

We booked our wedding reception here in November 2017, for May 2019. We came on holiday to Sorrento this week and thought we would visit our venue and try the menu. I emailed and got a reply saying my wedding had never been confirmed, only put in option, that the restaurant was closed for 2018 due to problems and also telling me off for using the email address to try and book in for a meal. Imagine you’re trying to organise a wedding from a different country and are willing to spend a lot of money, you’ve already sent out your invites and you receive this blunt, rude email. La Tonnarella nearly ruined my holiday, and for a terrible day or two I thought they’d ruined my wedding. This establishment has recently updated their website promoting the venue for wedding receptions. They may want to work on how they treat their brides and grooms. We found an alternative, more beautiful and professional venue. During our stay in Sorrento we came and looked around La Tonnarella and realised this had been a blessing in disguise: it’s a sad, run down, neglected place and the lift stinks of urine.

Gorgeous Italian villa turned ....

My three sisters and I stayed 5 nights in rooms #9 and #1, side by side Deluxe rooms with huge terraces overlooking the sea with dramatic views of Vesuvius. First, i must complement Katia from the front desk for accomodating our reservation changes. We booked the rooms early and I observed a cheaper price later on. She worked with me to change both the price thought she didn't have to as I was already committed and my request to upgrade my room. We had consistently polite and attentive service through out our stay. We had help getting our bags to our rooms. I am shocked to see a review of dirty bathroom as ours were always spotless as were our rooms. We had a nightly knock to ask us if we wanted additional clean towels though we were given fresh towels in the morning. That is a nice personal touch. When we arrived there were a few bird droppings on my terrace and I asked that it be cleaned and it was done immediately. All the floors appear to be tiled so I don't understand the comment about carpeting. I saw none anywhere. I loved the antiques and elegant decor throughout the lobby and eating areas. This hotel is very romantic and charming with amazing views from the common areas. There is a large outdoor terrace where you can bring your breakfast or bottle of wine and enjoy the beautiful view of the sea. Potted flowers and trees and the occasional sea gull swooping below you. Room #9 is small and the bathroom also is very small, with no good space to put two people's toiletries. We both had large suitcases so I stored mine on the terrace. The room was spotless and the large doors opening to the terrace had breezy curtains making the space seem continuous, with a tiled table with four chairs and cushions and two sunning chaise lounges and our own little lemon tree on the terrace! Room #1, for the same price because it is also the premium terrace and sea view was a much more spacious room (can sleep 3) with a sofa/daybed, an elegant and comfy reading chair and bigger bathroom. Both had bed frames of scrolled wrought iron. Pillows were not comfortable. Rooms came with a fridge, cups, glasses and makings for coffee (very nice to wake up sipping coffee on your private terrace). We did use the hidden safe but you must ask for a key at the front desk. The hotel has a tranquil oasis feel to it, a getaway from the hustle bustle of downtown and this is just what we wanted. Peaceful, quaint and plenty of places to sit and have a moment of peace. The elevator to the beach (you must step down stairs to get to the elevator) ends is a walkway lined with potted flowers in the bottom of a wooded ravine. Again, a great sense of getting away though I imagine it is anything but in the summer, then ends with a building and small rocky beach. The water is clear and gorgeously blue. I i believe the beach is open to the public for a price in summer. There is a water fall parrallel to the walkway, an unexpected treat. Breakfast was just right for us, with fruit, yogurt, eggs, meat if you wish, plenty of gluten free and bio packaged products, cereals, breads and rolls. Our waiter was very handsome and sweet natured. We do love our coffee and would have to hurry them a bit with our repeated requests for refills. Once they catch on they are very accomodating. Many different countries represented in the patrons and we met some friendly and helpful people. One word of note: if you are mobility challenged there is a lift but still you must navigate a few stairs here and there and it would be hard to enjoy all the hotel has to offer. We did not use the bus stop as we enjoyed the daily 15 minute walk into to town to get some exercise. We ate someplace different every night. One restaurant the Donna Sofia had pick up service at the hotel. We used the lobby computer to buy train tickets and the front desk printed them for us. All four of us loved the hotel and would stay again if our travels bring us back to Sorrento.
