Grand Hotel Menaggio

It’s a nice hotel... but the room was not worth ... it was a standard double room with lake view. The food was pretty average. The breakfast spread was also ok ok. For vegetarians that isn’t an option that you would like. But the staff were nice and helpful. The view was good - right at the lake front. And about a km or so from the city centre.

We enjoyed our 5 nights stay at the Grand Hotel Menaggio but...let’s start with the positives 1. The best view from Menaggio . Even if you don’t get the lake facing rooms, the garden/ restaurant/ pool/ bar areas boast the best views 2. Mennagio itself is a great quiet place to view Lake Como. Bellagio is over over crowded and Varenna (which completes Lake Como’s golden triangle) is a train stop . Mennagio is a quaint lakeside town that’s not toooo crowded 3. This is a grand old hotel with the trims that go with it. Enjoy the simple touches such as classic chandeliers on the ground floor, the classic moulding designs on the ceilings and the general old world charm of the very large bar/ reception area etc 4. Decent breakfast spread with a lot of fruit, omelettes, bakery and deli items 5. It’s literally ON the ferry terminal. Walk out of the ferry and it’s there. It’s a 30 second walk across the road to the bus stop that takes you to Como S G station. but.. 1. Not a very friendly reception. No question of upgrades or any special treatment coming from MMT and infact a billing error asking me to pay for 3 meals instead of 2! 2. Tiny rooms with old style furniture and fixtures that’s seen better days. 3. We had a road facing room (lake facing is 2X) and the Italians drive (not just) their Ducati’s and Ferraris all day and all night! Noisy at times. We took a fan and kept it on both to help as white noise machine and to keep the blankets on
