Four delightful days

It was raining when we arrived in Köln and our hotel doors was locked. We were directed to a “sister” hotel across the street to check in. Once in our room my wife and I were pleased with the upgrades the hotel owner has done. The room was nicely appointed, the furnishings comfortable and the bathroom modern. Throughout the hotel there were nice touches to bring warmth to the facilities. Our first morning we went to the breakfast room where we saw what looked like a typical German buffet breakfast. Once seated the hostess approached us to ask if we would want a cooked breakfast - eggs - however we would like. As someone who looks forward to a nourishing breakfast to start my day I was delighted to have an omelette with cheese, vegetables and bacon. I would certainly consider returning here. I would also recommend the wonderful staff here and at it’s sister hotel, the Hotel Domspitz.

Exactly what you'll need for a....

I booked a trip stopping in Cologne last-minute and searched for hotels for my stay. Hotel Domstern was listed at a pretty good price, and was well-rated on this site, so I booked it. I got to the hotel before my check-in time (3pm), so I was able to leave my bag so I could continue exploring the city. When I got back to the hotel, the front desk receptionist checked me in, and informed me my bag was already in my room. The room is small, but exactly what I needed for one night. I found the room (and the entire room) to be well-decorated and clean. Breakfast was tasty as well. You can ask for fresh-cooked eggs if you'd like, which I would recommend.

Very close to the Railway stat....

Slight trouble finding the the hotel using a printed copy of Google maps due to inaccurate info and people sending us in different directions. Once found it is only a 5 minutes walk to the station. The hotel is small but perfectly formed. Fortunately we booked a superior room as standard rooms are incredibly small. Our room was on the 4th floor and there is an elevator. The room was large and comfortable with wall papered walls, quality old furniture, a king sized brass bed and a couple of chairs to relax in. The only English speaking tv channels were the news channels and there were no tea or coffee making facilities or fridge in the room. The receptionist will provide cups and a jug of hot water but everything else is BYO. The bathroom was very large with a separate bath and walk-in shower but the lighting is very bad for putting on makeup and there are no bathroom products provided, just soap/shampoo in a container on the wall. The breakfast buffet is small but with a good variety with a menu for items cooked to order. The very small staff were friendly and helpful. Cologne cathedral and the main Christmas market is a short walk away via the railway station. There is no restaurant on site but on recommendation we went to a small beer hall restaurant (Max Stark) about a kilometer from the hotel which was very good.

Bijou hotel perfect for relaxi....

This hotel is a gem! Perfectly located in the old part of Cologne, a short walk via the main train station to the Cathedral and a multitude of Christmas markets. We stayed in room 400 on the top floor, accessed by lift, which the affable host, Christian, assured us was the best room. It has been recently redecorated with taste and flair. Someone has had fun accessorising this room. The bed is huge and comfortable. There are easy chairs, a good-sized wardrobe and the lighting is good too. The bathroom has a shower and separate bath and the bath is to die for. Our water bill would rocket if I had one of these at home. It's double headed and super comfortable for soothing away the stresses and strains of life or just from exploring Cologne. All fixtures and fittings are top quality. Breakfast served downstairs is a feast of delights. Meats & cheeses, a superb selection of breads and lots of other additions; subtly spiced lentil salad and various tapas-type temptations. The hotel caters easily and willingly for vegetarians and vegans. It looked as though someone had put lots of effort into preparing such an extensive selection. Although the hotel room did not have much of a view, the road was surprisingly quiet and we (used to being in a quiet village) slept soundly, even with the windows open. I would definitely come here again. Nothing was too much trouble for Christian and colleagues.

Nice for a night

Small hotel with small entrance - nearby a more visible hotel. Nice room for a stay, but quite small (room and bathroom), however very clean. Confortable bed. Nice breakfast with large choices. Friendly staff. Very competitive price.
