Less than acceptable service w....
I went there with my spouse to see if this was a suitable venue to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. Having never been to Cologne when my spouse broached the venue as a possibility I insisted in doing a trial visit before committing to spending 4 days there.
Good thing I did..we arrived for 12:30pm but we're told absolutely no rooms were available as check in was only at 3pm. No problem...we went walking to find lunch. We came back at around 1:30 pm.... room still not available.. so we sat waiting...for he had a dog with us so we needed to put her in the room before we could even go shopping.
At 2:20pm... we were called to desk and told rooms were still not available bit they would upgrade us?.. went to our upgraded room...wierd it looked exactly like we had booked.
Ok tried to access premium wifi which I had booked with room as most stations are not in English...the singular BBC station btw was not even show..so it was Sky International News, RTL or nothing really....mind you there were French, Russian, Spanish, German, Sea..you name it...just NOT any other ENGLISH.
Nope could not access premium.
Needed password. Called downstairs..
Told tgat wifi was free but you had to pay for premium. I said we had. Asked to RETURN DOWNSTAIRS and show proof.
Hubby was mad..i laughed...welcome to Cologne
Checked bathroom..one shampoo and one conditioner...guess we were expected to share...
Still could not believe this room was an upgrade...geez there was not even a bedroom slipper.
Went downstairs...showed proof....then
Got password...no apology...
Went shopping... returned to room
Took doggie for walk. Back in room
Decides to take off tv as news was only thing of interest.
Alas remote does not take off tv....you can start tv bit not take it off..must get up to to tv and manually turn off... Back to ore technology time.
Thank goodness it was just one night. Hubby enquired 're late checkout...told it was 20€ an hour. I told him.. " really you want to spend an extra hour here?"
Anyhow we checked out on time. Buffet breakfast was ok btw.
We left. Hubby being the dutiful person he is decided to write mgmnt about our experience...on my account..
Mgmnt wrote back to tell me that I had been upgrades to a superior room... really please don't show me standard then....and I had had an earlier check in than 3pm so that was goodwill on behalf of hotel.
Wait you took time to pretend you did me favours? Well guess who will not be back. No way!

Good business hotel
The hotel is at about 30/45 minutes from the train station (depends of the traffic). Located in an activity area and in front of a nice supermarket where you can find everything including hot meal for your diner in your room. It's good to know as what is offered at the hotel is quite limited and expensive. Rooms are ok and staff is very friendly and efficient. You have free WIFI which is working nice and you have also access to a nice swimming pool and a small fitness center.

A few unwelcome surprises, roc....
First, You need to pay an additional extra 8 euro for the parking, which is not included, or you can park on the open street. Our room had a few empty trash bottles left under the curtains, and the glasses were not dishwasher cleaned, but appeared to have been wipe with a cloth. This is not okay or hygienic. The bed is very firm, so if you prefer a medium hardness then this might be problematic. Breakfast is very good, and has a large selection to choose from.

Xmas Markets Trip
My son and I stayed at the Mercure Koeln West at the weekend on our trip to the Xmas Markets (and to take in a Bundesliga match).
The hotel is about a 15/20min tram ride (Line 7 - Marsdorf) away from the city centre but that is reflected in the room rate and I thought was good value for money.
As a regular customer of the Accor hotel chain, the hotel was as expected and staff were very helpful (particularly given my German is very limited).

Terrible service and very nois....
My husband and I stayed over for the night, we needed a break and some rest as we have a baby that doesn’t sleep and my sister offered to watch the kids for the night so that my husband and I could get some sleep. We decided to book in at the Mercure outside the city because we thought it would be nice and quiet. As we got to the hotel the sauna was not on as they only switch it on at night and you only allowed to use it at night, that wasn’t the big issue, would have been nice to use it immediately but didn’t mind waiting till the evening to use it. The bed was very uncomfortable and there was only 2 small, smaller than single bed blankets on the bed and 2 flat and small pillows. There’s a number you can phone to get 24 hour assistance, no one answers that phone, I tried few times and no answer. The towels were small and dirty, there was only hand towels in our room, no bath towels. Then the music started! There is a nightclub opposite the hotel, it’s technically across the road but the road is like a walk path so basically on the same premises, it sounded like the night club was in our room! I again tried to phone the assistance number and again no one answered so I eventually phoned reception from my cellphone to ask about the loud music, that was at 2am in the morning and they were so rude, all they said is there’s nothing they can do and that it’s not their problem, I asked to be moved but they would not move us to the other side of the building, they just said it’s a nightclub, the music stops at around 3am but it only stopped at 4am! No apology from the staff, they didn’t even try to help. The next morning when I booked out I mentioned to the reception staff how terribly unhappy we are cause it’s not a cheap hotel and their response was, what must they do? Not sorry, nothing! All we wanted was a quiet night, we needed sleep and didn’t get any sleep at all! We go to hotels a lot, we do a lot of family holidays but this has definitely been our worst hotel stay! I am definitely taking it up with the Mecure group as this is un-exceptable! It was such an unpleasant stay!
