Decent hotel for the money, ve....
In reading the reviews on this site and others, I expected the front desk people to be horrible, to have a shared bathroom, and to have a filthy room. During my stay none of this was true, fortunately.
I stayed in a single room, room 25, which had its own toilet and shower. The toilet area is ridiculously narrow, but the shower was an ok size. The bed was a little too soft for me, and the decorations and carpet were clean enough for the price of the room. The bed linens were clean and crisp. The towels and bathmats were fine, and there was handsoap and a shampoo packet in the bathroom. The wi-fi was spotty but worked--make sure to get a printout of the login code from the receptionist.
However, at the end of the first and second floor halls there was a "WC" door, which I did not look in. I assume this was a shared toilet for the other rooms, perhaps with a shared shower. I was relieved to not have to use communal WC/shower, but this may be the case with other rooms.
There were two doors from the room to the hallway, a normal exterior door, and a thicker interior door, perhaps to block the sound from the hall. In the morning I woke up and could faintly hear the sound of my neighbor snoring. There were sounds coming in from the street.
The hotel charged and additional 8.50 Euro (?) for city room tax (?) for two nights.
The receptionists were fine and pleasant.
The hotel is a 5-minute walk to the HBf/Dom, tops. This was very convenient as my friend stayed at another hotel (a little nicer) farther away for 2 1/2 times the price. I feel I got a much better deal for my room (but maybe got lucky not having a room with shared WC/shower).
I chose this hotel because the travel site I used had it at one of the least expensive places, at 102 Euros per night. It is likely the travel site I used increased the price at the time I reserved a room, because similar places were approximately 50-60 Euros when I checked a few days before my stay.
So, if you can stay at this place at a low rate AND have your own facilities in your room, it is a pretty good deal. The location close to HBf/Dom is very convenient. I would stay there again.

Not bad hotel
Stayed in a single room with a shared shower/toilet for 2 nights. The room isn't too bad, bed was average, it kinda reminded me of a student accommodation. Shower had hot water, you get one bath towel and hand towel. The room did smell of smoke slightly. I spoke to 3 different receptionist during my stay and they were very kind to me.
The only negative thing is the walls are quite thin. I got woken up by the room next to me at 4am because they were talking so loud, but I guess it depends who stays there.
Location is extremely good, the train station is literally a few minutes away, there are lots of places to eat at the station and the cathedral and museum are both very close by.

I think it is my first 1 star rank here.
The owner, who sit in the reception is very nasty.
Terrible service by the owner. I ordered non smoking, and received smoking room for 4 nights. He said it is only when vacancy, but offered non smoking room with extra 70% to the amount I paid.
Room small, dirty, smelly, towel is hard like a rock, TV is poor in quality and variety, no shampoo, poor shared shower.
The only plus is the location, but there are many other hotels there. Pay more, but enjoy...
I don't recommend this hotel, even if the price is tempting.

Delightful rooms, friendly sta....
This hotel is inexpensive, and I went with a group of 14. I warned them that it would not be as nice as where we stayed in Berlin, based on price and reviews. It became a favorite of the group. The rooms were clean and comfortable, as well as quiet. Not a lot of shower space, but if you're used to budget European pensions, it was more than adequate. The staff was very friendly and helpful, giving directions, trying their best even when their English wasn't that great. We enjoyed the breakfasts - eggs, sausage, the usual German fare (Brotchen, meats, jams, cheeses), cereal, coffee, tea. Really, everything about this was a pleasant stay. I ranked it excellent because of the value - though obviously if people are willing to pay more for bigger shower facilities and larger rooms that's a matter of choice. As a centrally located budget hotel, I found it excellent. The free wifi worked very well too. The students were commenting after we left about how friendly and helpful the staff were, and how they really felt comfortable here. I certainly would go to Hotel Berg again!
