Thomas Cook's All-Inclusive is....

I stayed here for an all-inclusive 10 day off-peak holiday with a very close friend through Thomas Cook, as the price seemed too good to be true - and as the motto says, it was! The flight was ok, and the Thomas Cook rep at the airport was efficient and effective - but it was the last time we saw a rep until we returned to the airport. Not even a Thomas Cook info folder was available at the hotel. The reception was clean and cared for, and staffed by a matriarchal figure whose foreign language skills were extensive, just limited in depth. Sign language made up for most of my deficiency in Bulgarian and her limited English, and allowed us to converse for the most part without anything going seriously wrong. The hotel has an on-site spa, which we took full advantage of, having had the sales pitch provided by the proprietor as he wandered around the pool in the morning. A free sample massage encouraged my friend to book a couple of treatments, and I joined in with gusto, including a speciality hot mud treatment. If you have not tried this, it consists of the following - stripping down to a paper thong provided by the spa, being smeared head to toe in smooth but pungent mud, and then lying on a brick plinth in near total darkness. You are aware of other guests similarly clothed (or unclothed) in this mixed-sex environment. However, the first shock is that the brick plinth is heated, and I mean super-heated. Never have I had the entire length of my body in contact with such a hot surface - my radiators never get that hot in the middle of winter. However, the strange thing is that you can actually lie down, carefully, and it doesn't feel as if you are burning. Except, that is, for your calves and heels after some time. You are left to bake like this for around 20 minutes, when you are invited to be drenched by bowlfuls of tepid water and the mud is washed off by the staff. It was an experience, but probably not one I would probably repeat. The hotel itself is clean, but a maze of corridors which we discovered when being shown the indoor route to the dining room. Being all-inclusive, the dining room is opened at specific times, and it always amazes me the scrum that can develop as the opening time appears. It takes less than five minutes for the well-presented and prepared dished to be ransacked by the "guests", and if you arrive after five minutes you are treated to a servery that has little left other than food covering the floor, and all surfaces of the serving area. It was not like this for the first four or five days however, and was actually enjoyable, but as soon as the season started for real, midway through our stay, it seemed that the eastern Europeans and Russian guests descended onto the resort and trashed the lot each meal time. It was a good reminder for me why I tend to steer clear of all-inclusives for just this reason. The pool area was well laid out, and had sufficient sunbeds, but they were very uncomfortable - the worst I have experienced in my life. I am still not sure why or what made them so bad, but the discomfort was largely relieved when we found a local shop selling covered foam pads just the right length for the sunbeds for less than a couple of pounds. after a couple of days other guests found these too, and the local shop quickly sold out. However, even though it was the start of the season, in May/June, the temperatures quickly rose to very hot on most days, but the pool itself was absolutely frigid. Sometimes this made for a refreshing cooling off environment, but it was not something which could be tolerated for long. Eventually the cold of the water did force one out and back into the sun trap of the poolside. The hotel had the benefit of direct beach access, and it was the start of a stretch of around a mile of sandy beach. However, there must have been an overlooked part of the summer plan which said "clean the beach", as the sandy stretch right outside the hotel had obviously not been touched since the end of the previous season. The remainder of the beach, which fronted other hotels were cleaned daily - our beach was touched once by a JCB which bulldozed the top layer of sand straight onto an adjacent breakwater, seaweed, glass and all. Overall, this was an adequate hotel, in a country which has yet to seem to benefit from much of the nascent tourist trade. It is not somewhere I would voluntarily return to for a holiday, but that is more to do with the country rather than the hotel. If you picked up this hotel and planted it in the middle of a European tourist trap, it would be one of those unremarkable hotels which fill much of the pages of holiday brochures - nothing special, but not that bad.

Worst hotel ever stayed

I would definitely not recommend this hotel. I don't know if it had something to do with it being the end of season. It was not at all as described. The food was cold and very bland. Definitely not a 4*. There was no snack bar. A tray of pizza and cold fries were wheeled out at 10.30 and left there all day. Staff were not pleasant. Very limited drinks. Warm white wine. No offer of diet drinks. There was entertainment one evening and only because we asked. Our room was ok although the shower was broken and water leaked out of the bathroom. Pool was freezing. No a la carte restaurant. No beach bar. No seafood restaurant as advertised. All closed.

THE MOST DREADFUL,AWFUL,TERRIB....

I refer to the FOUR STAR hotel The Festa Pomorie Resort Bulgaria where we were guests from 16.09.2017 until 01.10.2017: Room 218 A rat was seen next to the swimming pool Tip of a latex glove found in ham roll A fly stuck to cooked potato Substandard food and ALWAYS ALWAYS cold, albeit the restaurant did provide a microwave oven to enable guests to heat up their own food Much of the food was stale and feel sure the same food was offered again and again The bar snacks are indescribable Cats roamed free in the restaurant Restaurant was quite a long walk from the body of the Hotel so getting wet was quite frequent Our room was dirty, only cleaned intermittently, beds never made, clean sheets left for us to make own beds Dirty mattresses Not double bed, but two singles pushed together Bathroom ceiling black with mould as the ceiling was leaking from room above Mould around bath Bathroom Fixings hanging off Curtains hanging off Dirty stained bedroom carpet Dirty bathroom floor Wardrobe fixtures missing No toilet rolls left or clean towels (had to go to reception) Bathplug faulty No handbasin plug Hairdryer broken Bathroom fan secured with masking tape No British television programmes available, tried accessing paying channel but they were always “not available” Would have sat in the bar or reception area when wet but not enough room for the number of guests Only public areas looked clean, stairwells were festooned with dirt Arrived at the only bar open approx 1.30 pm - not manned - waited 15 minutes then contacted reception staff who informed us there was no-one to serve. We reminded them the bar should be open from 10a.m. until 11pm. A young lady arrived upset informing us she was eating her lunch and proceeded to cry whilst pouring our drinks - can you imagine how that made us feel!!!! Bar supplies not available, gin, vodka etc.. ran out on many nights No correct glasses for wine etc,, often served in tumblers No bar snacks available Gymnasium completely unsafe – as told to me by a Gym owner in the UK People who manned the Spa were too busy to show me around Staff were totally miserable, unwelcoming, unsmiling and generally unhelpful making us feel a nuisance (except for one kind gentleman) The day we arrived which was early morning (approx) 1 a.m. the Thomas Cook rep was rude and unhelpful Pool towels not available for the first two days necessitating use of room towels from reception No adult evening entertainment as advertised until the last two nights No welcome meeting with the Thomas Cook Rep next day Tried to make appointment to speak with the Hotel Manager but always too busy

In need of some improvement

Beautiful view and location. Room was fine but no plugs in bath and safety rail did not take any weight. We found the food to be fine, but a bit repetitive, not overly hot but microwave available if you needed it. A nice walk along the seafront to the old town (30-40 minutes)
