Great hotel

We had an excellent time there. Great service, great kitchen, great breakfast buffet. Hotel looks from outside a bit old fashioned, but this is compensated by the service and the cleanliness. Was a very good choice and I would go again.

Great value for money!

A great hotel, really worth the 4 stars it received. - I had a room next to an elevator, but did not hear anything - great breakfast buffet with everything you want - minibar use is free - small gestures that are really appreciated (I do not want to spoil the surprises!) - free use of sauna and swimming pool - I booked a half hour massage in the wellness area. Great and personal service! - an informal and welcoming atmosphere - free Wifi in the room, and it works! - My stay was on the basis of bed and breakfast. You can book a dinner for 48 CHF if you like. The dinner is good, homecooked and good value for money. Minor point of improvement: the hotel receives a lot of groups, which may delay the check-in process for other travellers.

Old hotel in need of update

Kind of feels like walking into the 1970's. The service was good but the place is old. The WIFI is terrible, the elevator is rickety and the rooms do not have temperature control (even in the suites). The pool was nice, though.

A very nice Mountain Hotel

The Sunstar Hotel in Grindelwald is a good, solid mountain resort area hotel. My wife and I stayed there twice - in March 2000 for 6 nights when we first met, and this year (May 2018) we decided to stop in again for 4 nights – for old times sake. We travel a lot and generally stay in nicer hotels. We are happy to report that the hotel is not showing any noticeable wear after 18 years. In fact, the common areas have been upgraded significantly since we were last here. The lobby and restaurant is very large and inviting. The grounds are very well groomed. And the rooms are the same as we remember them - which is a positive since we didn’t see 18 years of wear and tear. The property is well maintained. On our first visit we stayed in a normal room facing the street with no balcony. Functional but nothing special. On this visit, we stayed in their best room – the Suite Eiger, which is a bedroom, living room with sofa bed, and a balcony. The bathroom is basic. The beds and sofa are comfortable. WiFi is very good. Plenty of storage. Very quiet. The difference between the Eiger and First Suites is which side of the hotel they are on, the size, and the view. First faces the street and the gondola that goes up to the First mountain area, and is larger. And the Eiger is on the back of the hotel with an absolutely breathtaking view of bucolic swiss countryside in front of 3 massive mountain peaks. It can’t be described. Just amazing. A big pro is the breakfast which is included in most (all?) rates. Way better than we were expecting. A wide array of food, omelets cooked to order, even Prosecco if you are so inclined. A half-board dinner option is also offered which we did not try but the menus looked to be high quality. A con for some will be that this is a tourist hotel so busloads of groups are regularly arriving and departing making the lobby busy at times. It didn’t bother us in a significant way but it is something to be aware of. In summary, this hotel is a very good pick in the Grindelwald area. And the Grindelwald area is a great Alpine area both for skiing, and for summer hiking.

Biggest and best in the town!

Great hotel at the top of the town. Friendly staff, huge communal areas, great pool, awesome unobstructed views of the Eiger, and an enormous breakfast buffet. Well recommended!! There is ample parking outside in the forecourt, or in the underground car park. Phots are from the hotel.
