A/C is terrible
Why it only gets 2/5 from me is mainly A/C. It doesn’t work worth a damn, and the lowest you can set the temp is 18 Celsius. The other reason is the room is tiny. Nice room, beautiful lobby, good location and clean. Won’t be back because of the ac.

A Great Surprise
In our searches for a Naples hotel, my wife and I read hundreds of reviews. Many touted the likes of Gran Vesuvio or Parkers. We ran across several reviews though, that mentioned the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia in very favorable terms; as a hotel on par with the usual suspects. We delved into it and found that it checked all of our boxes: comfortable, clean, inviting and convenient. Plus, it was located in the same area as the other high-end options, and they were listed as less per night than their competitors. We gave it a try.
In early April we flew from the states to Naples and hired a sedan service for our transfer to the hotel. The transfer service appeared to be well aware of Grand Hotel Santa Lucia which was a relief as we have traveled to many cities where we have to provide the addresses for our accommodations. The trip from the airport was around 30 minutes long. As we wound through the city traffic; down small side streets we came out onto the large Via Partenope a one way street which passes down the bayside, directly next to Castel dell’ovo (the seaside castle named for a mythical egg that the poet Virgil is legend to have placed). Stopping at the second-to-last building before the corner takes the road northward we exited to the beautifully kept building that you see in the photos.
The Grand Hotel Santa Lucia advertises itself as a 4 star amenity and for the area we feel that to be accurate. Please keep in mind that Naples is the third largest city in the country, but it is far from the marquis European cities that you see on the yearly “Top 10” lists. Whether or not Naples deserves its dark-horse rankings, it is a beautiful city - one of the oldest, with very proud people and incredible food. Back to the hotel: the front staff were completely accommodating; spoke fantastic English and were always available with a smile and a ‘ciao.’ We were able to book an excursion to Pompeii right when we checked in (they have a board of pamphlets for excursions that they can help set up). We also had the need to print out last minute ferry tickets – that we bought online for Capri (you must see Capri if you are in the area). The hotel does not have a business center, but the front desk just asked me to email them the documents and when we had comeback from a meal they had it all printed and neatly folded into an envelope. There is something very ‘James Bond’ like when you have an envelope waiting for you at the front desk.
While you are in the lobby, please take note to the left of you (walking in) is where they serve a very nice breakfast buffet. On the continental side, to be expected, there are lots of different sweet pastries. If you don’t know, they are very big on their ‘Dulces’ for breakfast. But, they have fruit and eggs and cereal as well. They will make you coffee or get you juice or waters.
Regarding the rooms, we stayed on the third floor (and by the way the floor numbers start with the first level above the lobby. You would consider this entrance on floor ‘0’). We had a beautiful view of Castle dell’ovo, and it’s Borgo Marinaro (the marina attached) as well as the Immacolatella Fountain to your left and the Chiaia district to your right. In the late afternoon – through the evening Via Parthenope turns into a walking thoroughfare for the local Napolitanos to make up their steps and catch up on their day. It is interesting to sit on the balcony and people watch as they stroll bye.
The room was comfortable, and they have the block out systems on the windows which can be activated by a switch on the wall, once they are down (they run like a garage door), they block out all of the light. When you are dealing with some serious jet lag this can be your best friend. The bed was nice and large and very comfortable. There was ample room for three bags and two guests. The bathroom was a bit on the small size (with very little counter space along with the sink, a commode, tub/shower and a bidet), but it was very functional, and we really did not have any complaints.
There is a safe in the room. It was easy to use and on the larger size so we were able to lock away our tablets along with our other valuables. The TV service is SKY in the Compania Region, and if you hit the info button on the remote while on a channel you can change the language from Italian to English (or ‘Original; for those shows that were already in English). We don’t watch a lot of television, but it is nice from time to time to hear our native tongue in the background and not have it be CNN World News (nothing against CNN though).
At the Borgo Marinaro, directly across the street, there are several very good restaurants, although the hotel also has a restaurant (we did not eat there though). The concierge can make many recommendations and even secure reservations for you too.
If you need to get Euros there is a bank around the corner (1) block, head right out of the front; toward the street with all of the taxis (also good to know as you can take a cab anywhere) By the way, if you are taking a cab to a fairly regular location, like the Stazione Centrale (main train station), or the airport there are flat rates. Ask the front desk. Generally, we have found that our driver was able to get to the location in enough time to make the flat rate value null, but we also aren’t sure whether the flat rate gave the driver a little more impetus. We were also during the shoulder season. Back to the location of the ATM, if you continue up this street there is a pharmacy and a general store as well. Farther still and you will end up at Piazza Plebicito, where you can have coffee at Café Gambrinas or catch an opera at the Teatro di San Carlo.
We were very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. We found it to be a beautiful building, in the best location, with excellent amenities for the best value. I would not only return to Naples, but I would return to the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia in a heartbeat.

Thai is a lovely hotel, we didn’t have a sea view but were in the 5th floor in a room that had been recently updated. The whole hotel is immaculate and the staff are very helpful and polite, nothing was too much trouble.
The area is quiet too, just steps away from the sea.
Would definitely recommend this hotel and re visit.

very nice hotel in a stunning ....
I stayed for three nights at the Grand Hotel Santa Lucia as part of a trip to Naples and surroundings.
The hotel is on the sea, with a nearly pedestrian street in front, so it is pretty quiet.
Rooms are quite big and well kept, even if they have not been renovated in quite some time so they have an oldish appearance. They are clean and with many amenities.
Air conditioning and heating is very noisy so it is not possible to keep it on during night. It would have been difficult if it had been summer and hot.
Strangely enough, despite being a four-star hotel, there was no turn-down service. However, the impression was that blankets were changed every morning.
Staff was nice and helpful.
Breakfast was good, even if some improvements in terms of choices could be beneficial.
