Post Cruise Hotel.

This wasn't the best experience after coming off a fabulous cruise. The hotel rooms was tired, the hallways a bit of a mess. I didn't eat here. The hotel is at the start of downtown so is a bit out of the way to hit the tourist areas. The hotel did allow us to leave our luggage in a back rook for a good few hours, so this was a bonus. There was no air conditioning as it was switched off and the hotel had not yet been instructed to turn it on. If you left the window open to get some fresh air, the noise from the port could be quite loud. The hotel is near to the sea port and even nearer to the airport. I would not stay here again. The city itself was amazing.

Terrible hotel

We stayed for one night after a cruise. The hotel is near the port but is not walkable due to the road structure. It is classed as a 4 star but i would only give it a 2 star. The rooms are very basic and are in need of an full upgrade. The carpets were stained the bed side lights had no lampshades and a unit that looked like a rabbit had chewed. There was a fridge but I could not get it to work. Some of the ceiling tiles in the corridors were missing or stained showing corroded pipe work. There is a restaurant on site which provides a 2 course evening meal for €15. There is also a bar. The local bus will take you into Genoa centre or a taxi is around €12. The tourist tax is €3 pp per night.

Post Cruise Stay

We were really looking forward to our overnight stay in Genoa and were happy in the knowledge that this hotel was a 3/4 star. Unfortunately after staying here I would not give this more than 1 star and have marked it an overall rating of two simply for the friendly staff and the beautiful view! Hotel: On arrival, the reception staff were polite and courteous but the hotel looked tired and dated. Everywhere you looked you could see stained, threadbare carpets; walls that have peeling or missing wallpaper; damp patches; water leak patches and dirty scuffed paintwork. This could be a lovely hotel if it had a refurbishment to bring it back to life. Hotel Room: Although our hotel room was clean and offered fantastic views of the port and Genoa city, like the rest of the hotel this room requires a good refurbishment for the exact same reasons above. The bathroom of our hotel room seemed clean with the exception of very thick dust on the fan over the bath which is something that could easily be cleaned but was evident it had not been in many months. The shower curtain needed replacing due to tears/rips and what was especially off putting was the fact there was a hole (covered with a grill) in front of the toilet which you could see water in! There was also an issue with the bathroom door which, when it was shut whilst in the bathroom, you were unable to get out and it could only be opened from the other side! This is very worrying and could be quite frightening for the elderly or young children and especially if someone was on their own and they shut the door, how would they get out? We wondered if there is a general problem with the door locks on the hotel rooms because we noticed on multiple doors along the corridor, including our own, there was blue tape around the lock area which may indicate that a similar thing may have happened whereby someone had been locked in and had not been able to get out. If this is the case, I dread to think what would happen in a fire! Air Conditioning: When we arrived it was stifling hot and we endeavoured to get the air conditioning on but to no avail. Eventually we went to the reception and they advised us that they had not received the permit from the government to allow use of the air conditioning so it was switched off and could not be used! This resulted in us sleeping (or not in our case due to the ferry/cruise port and road noises) with the window wide open. We were a bit taken aback at how wide you could actually open the window and thought this may be quite dangerous for any families with young inquisitive children. Meals: We ate dinner at this hotel simply because there was nothing else around unless you wanted to go back into the city. The dinner cost 15 Euros per head for two courses with a 1/4 bottle of wine each and a bottle of water to share and we thought this was good value for money. Our stay included breakfast but there was not much choice and what was left (a coach party was breakfasting when we arrived) had been out a long time and was unappetising. All in all the breakfast was very poor. Would we choose this hotel again? Unless it receives the refurbishment it so desperately needs, then no! This is a real shame because the staff are friendly and it offers those stunning views over the port to Genoa city.

very nice place

we stayed here with our 3 year old son and it was an nice experience. the hotel it self, is quite old and the room was also old-furnished but it was clean and comfortable to sleep in. the breakfast was very good and there was a great choice of food to eat. the hotel is very nicely connected to the city centre by bus and genoa's acquario. we would definitely return.

Simple and Convenient

The Columbus Sea Hotel is situated at the port which was very convenient for me as i was going on a cruise. Our overnight package included breakfast and oh boy was the buffet breakfast delicious. It was a simple but great breakfast. Next to the hotel is a shopping center, which made lunch and dinner easy. We also had the option of eating in the hotel restaurant. The bar tenders are good, Daniela and the Russian looking fellow. They made us drinks fast fast and their English is not bad. I do have a gripe with the hotel...the first room that we were taken too was terrible. There was a big stain on the floor the curtain had a cut on it and the lampshades looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a while. What i liked was that we immediately asked for a different room and it was given to us with no stress. The staff are friendly. Not all speak English but they will try. Loved it and i hope to visit them soon to see the improvements. #excited!
