Hotel Ahl Meerkatzen

Quite small sized rooms, below average breakfast with no supplies most of the time, location is the only advantage

The location was good and it was in City centre

I booked the hotel because I thought it would be value for money. Big Mistake. When we arrived the guy at the reception gave us "Dachgeschoss room" the attic/ roof top floor. The whole hotel was cool but the attic room was hot. It was impossible to sleep there. When we requested him for another room he made excuses first saying that we were hyping the whole "too hot room" situation. He made excuses initially, for not having a air conditioner, totally side tracking the problem. Then my boyfriend stepped in asking assertively for another room. To which he said he had only a single room. The single room was not hot enough to burn us to death while we slept the night there so we took it. Also, last minute booking a hotel would be expensive. He basically used the fact that we were trapped with this hotel. He offered us to complain about the hotel in writing. But what's the point? It wouldn't get us a place to sleep for the night nor would it bring them to do anything to change the situation. The single room was not clean, I could smell something weird on the pillow covers, we used our own sheets to sleep on the bed. And I had to sleep on the floor because the bed was too small and I was the smallest enough to fit on the floor. The whole night was restless because it was warm enough to be uncomfortable and the room was right next to the street so there was a lot of noise. We booked the hotel because we thought we'd save money and we are generally not the types to complain. But the next day both of us fell ill. We had a long flight before reaching the hotel and had another 8 hour train journey ahead. In retrospect I should have paid 10 euros more and booked another better rating Hotel. The signs were there when I read the reviews, I wish I had given it more weight. This is also the first Hotel that I've booked to have given me such a difficult experience.
