Next to hospital - was perfect
Unfortunately the circumstances for this trip/stay were not out of choice - my partner had a mild stroke while in Salvador Brazil - do I flew out to be with him. I chose this hotel purely on the basis it was right next door to the hospital da Bahia, where he was admitted for treatment, as I am sure many people do. When he was discharged it was a short away - 3 mins - and when we had to go back to the emergency room - it could not have been more convenient. We ended up staying for 11 days - then had to move to the Sotero and then the mercure sister hotel boulevard close by as the hotel was full as I kept having to extend our stay till we were repatriated by insurance company.
The hotel really is a business hotel, always seems full. The hotel is surrounded by tall apartment blocks and offices - all recently built - an affluent and safe area. Huge shopping centre is 10-15 mins walk away, as is a large supermarket in the opposite direction.
The hotel rooms are of a good standard, comfortable beds, good a/c, WiFi could be a bit slow at peak times, and not great round the pool area. The pool area was a lovely place to rest, nice size pool, clean, with sun beds and tables and chairs - we had it to ourselves while he rested during the day - was wonderful, though you don’t get the sun between 1-2pm goes behind the hotel.
We ate in the restaurant for all our meals as he was not strong enough to go out - usually I never eat in hotel restaurants - in this case it was reasonably priced, freshly cooked, and if very good quality, sometimes they put on a buffet, for 43brl - about £9 - fantastic value - other times off the menu - good choices.
Breakfast was ok too with selection of fruits and eggs etc plenty of cakes ....
Usually one English speaker on the desk, otherwise had to use google translate - the staff are all lovely and friendly and if you look around you can get a great deal at this hotel - about £40/night.
Not a tourist hotel as not really close to anywhere - but staying here - I could not fault anything.

We liked the kettle and the free tea and coffe. The service was amazing, but we didn't like the dirty window at our room. We couldn't see the landscape cleary and we couldn't open the full window. The breakfeast was so good.

Not at the Mercure standard
Mercure Salvador Pituba provided me with the worst sleep quality in any stay at an Accor hotel. They gave me room 913. I turned off the air conditioning in the room before going to bed, but during the night I could hear a machine all night. In the morning, I decided to investigate, and found that there is a door in the outer wall right beside the window, concealed by the curtains. Turns out that the air conditioning for the floor is located outside, and access is through the room! Of course the door was locked. I have attached two pictures, one showing the concealed door and the other showing the external column where the machines are located.
Breakfast was below average, and the butter was in a very bad state, separating into two layers, one of them in a dark yellow.
And to wrap it up, check-out took a while, the guy behind the counter was pretending to be still busy with the previous guest. I had to wait until somebody checked the room to confirm I did not take stuff from the minibar.
My advice: avoid any room ending in 13 - not out of superstition, but because of an incredible lack of respect for a client who pays to have a good place to sleep. These rooms should be used only for access to the machines, never as a guest room.

Good hotel for business
This is a good hotel to stay for business, is not so very well located but you can use taxi and another ways, it's quite far from the restaurants, bars and beach. The breakfast is quite expensive comparing with the value. The staff is friendly. Recommended for business.
