This hotel is in a nice spot b....
I picked this hostel for my 3rd trip to Buenos Aires because I like the San Telmo area.
But certain things didn't make my stay as comfortable as I thought it would be.
I was in a shared dorm for about 6 nights, with air conditioner during the whole night,(I should have asked before reserving, it was my mistake) the staff takes away the remote controls, so you can't turn the machine off or fix the temperature. I am really allergic to those sudden changes in temperature, so I catched a cold really quickly. I'm actually still recovering. It's not the hostels fault, of course, but this is sheer torture for me.
The other thing is that I had a pair of lousy roommates (a drunken lady that picked a fight with another person that was staying there and a nagging youngster that used to bother me late at night), that isn't the hostels fault either, but this made my stay really uncomfortable.
The staff on the other hand was very helpful, thank goodness.
The hostel also offers a basic breakfast too.
The kitchen is big and has enough kitchenware if you want to cook.
I highly recommend to install electric sockets near the beds. My room was for 4, and we had one socket that wasn't working very well.
The place has a nice patio, but the smokers leave the ashes and cigarrette butts inside the big plant pots, so the area doesn't look clean sadly.
The place is interesting, but I guess that this time I did not have luck.

After reading such positive reviews of this hostel I was very disappointed with it, and it ended up being the hostel I liked least in seven months of backpacking in four SA countries. On the plus side San Telmo seems like an ok area and the hostel reception area looks quite cool and is quite nicely decorated. But I'm struggling to think of other positives. On the downside: our bathroom wasn't cleaned once in three days (overflowing bin, disgusting). I also got covered in bites which I now think (having moved to a nice clean hostel) were likely to have been bed bugs, and I saw beetles in the lobby. The bed was also really uncomfortable, I slept very badly - but after that they did let me swap beds. I signed up for the BBQ and was told they catered for veggies - but then as they were serving up there was only meat, and I got an almost indifferent 'apology'. So I went to bed hungry! The staff on reception have no real warmth and as a result I think this hostel distinctly lacks atmosphere, the unfriendliness seems to rub off on the guests. I couldn't wait to leave and I actually reduced my stay from a week to just two nights. A shame really - as it looks quite nice when you walk in. My advice would be to stay elsewhere, BA has so many options.

Avoid certain rooms due to noi....
We stayed for 4 nights on our 1st visit to BA in a superior double with bathroom. The room was ok, quite big in the top floor. Was pretty noisy from the road most the night and the hostal hosts party nights which on the Friday it went on until approx 2pm. Considering we were on the top floor it was really loud. Our room was never cleaned throughout the 4 nights, we even asked to change the bin in the bathroom but this didn’t happen.
Our second stay we were put in a room off the courtyard out back... downgraded to a standard double. This room looked like a prison cell, very dated with solid metal doors. No light from the window...and as people sat drinking right outside your room it was again really noisy. They do ask (on non party nights) to keep quiet after 12!!.
Don’t get this room (no 1.) if you want a lie in either as people eat breakfast there too after 8.
The breakfast was ok, bread, cereal and coffee. Nothing to get excited about.
Security wise, the front door is always locked, but 1 night we got back and after 10 minutes of ringing the bell someone staying there opened the door. There was no one on reception when we got in and some guest got our key for us???.
Overall we wished we’d stayed somewhere else, as other places looked loads better for abit more cash.

I can't get how this hostel is so well rated, I think it is a okay hostel, at most, and overpriced.
I had booked two nights throught Hostelworld, but decided to go to Buenos Aires one day before. I wrote an email to them asking if it would be possible to arrive one day previous and them informed it would be fine, provided I was ok with a different kind of accommodation. I replied to the email, saying it would be OK, and they replied back. When I arrived in Buenos Aires, Friday evening, past 11, they didn't have my booking. To make things worst, the lady in the reception was extremely unfriendly. It was pizza party night at the hostel, so all she wanted was to eat slice and be kept alone, but there was I, bothering her. Then, she couldn't understand anything I tried to say in Spanish. I am perfectly aware my Spanish is basic, but I had been resorting to it at the last ten days and it was ok. So a receptionist in a hostel should be able to understand poorly spoken Spanish, and not move on to English that fast -specially because she can't assume guests from a non English-speaking country would know English any better than Spanish. Apart from that, the evening receptionist claimed it wasn't her who replied my email. I don't really care, staff should communicate! I was sent to an inferior hostel, probably from the same owner, or friends with them.
Then I came back to this hostel for two nights.
Lobby was probably nice once. Furniture is ruined and couches and armchairs are way too uncomfortable. They have a TV in the lobby, so it is hard to have a socializing environment. Also, they have a cat. I thinks hostels with pets should inform guests, as not everyone is comfortable around them.
Cleaning is way below expected. For the time I was there, dorm and bathroom in the dorm weren't cleaned and trashcan in the bathroom was full of toilet paper, disgusting.
Beds are ok, though lower bed in benchbed is too low, I hit my forehead several times.
My dorm was close to the outdoor area people would hang out, so it was really loud when I tried to go to sleep at 12. According to hostel's own rules, that area was supposed to be silent at 12, but I didn't happened, and staff did nothing about it. I guess if you are searching for a party environment, it would be OK. But it seems travelers who are in for daytime experiences don't stand a chance.
Location is ok, not too far from San Telmo street fair and market. But there are better places in this neighborhood, and on the other side of Independencia Avenue one can find many more dinning options.
Overall, it is far from being the worst hostel, but it is too expensive for what they have to offer.

I was positively surprised how nice the hostel was, pretty much everything was working very well, the interier is very cosy and the stuff nice and helpful. They serve tasty and rich breakfast (considered it`s a hostel). Really great deal - a great service for a very good price. And of course a very convenient location. I would definitely recommend it and stay again.
