For business fine
We selected this hotel since we had to fly home to Beijing next morning from Hongqiao. The hotel is korean style which is fine.
The rooms are ok, not fancy. Clean bathroom. The breakfast is simple, I found all I needed.
The sourroundings are ok, not fancy. Its ok for working when you have gone all day and stay the night. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Only when everywhere else is f....
The bed was fine, the bathroom was okay, the air con worked. Now I've run out of anything positive to say. The manager was trying hard, and the staff were too, but the place is dowdy, the breakfast dire, and oh that carpet. Depressing.

Good breakfast for Korean who ....
I have stayed 1night on business trip. As usual I drank after working.
Generally Korean want to have spicy soup next morning for soothing their stomach, such as ramen or noodle. Of course, I also wanted to eat something like spicy noodle and soup. Fortunately this hotel served ramen in breakfast. It was good for me.
The room was generally comfortable, but I did not like view of window because of the structure that look inside the building.

Not bad for business stay
Since I have to go to Shanghai for business matters twice a year, I had the chance to stay in Fortune Hotel for 11 days.
Let's start with the counter, I thought the receptionists were not acting very smoothly. So if it happens that many people want to check in, it may take a long long time (maybe over 20 mins) to have your check-in matter done. It happened to me that my client had already paid our room fee in advance, but the receptionists didn't recognize that, he still asked me to pay via credit card. It took quite a long time to negotiate after I finally got my room card.
The room I stayed was quite big, with two single beds. One thing annoyed me that while I opened the door, a strong scent of smoke came into my nose! (I guess it was from the previous customer, he/she may smoke in this room) I couldn't stand the smell, so I asked to change to another room. The hotel staff done quickly for that. The toiletries were full prepared, bathroom was clean, bed was really really soft which was my favorite.
One thing special for the breakfast was the "Hsin ramen", which is a famous instant noodle from Korea. You can order one, and the waiter will send it to your seat. Other plates were quite common, but too salty for me. Since I stayed here for 11 days, I must say that the plates were all the same in every single day!
The last thing was the wifi connection. You have to log in with your passport number. It happened to me that I couldn't access no matter how I tried. I called the counter receptionists, they helped change the password. But the next day the changed password didn't work! So I had to do the same thing again. It was quite annoying at that time because I had to work.
Generally speaking, the hotel is not bad for business stay. If everything goes well, it may be a good choice.

Not Ever Again!
I have stayed at the Fortune several times on business trips that entailed visits to a nearby enterprise but not ever again. My last stay was for 10 days in December 2013. The hotel had obviously changed hands since my previous visits and there was a changeover in staff and in the free breakfast. None of the staff could speak a word of English. The hotel lobby was filled with smoke and was like that every time. The breakfast was pathetic even in a country where breakfasts at many hotels lack anything much in the way of western food. Coffee was an instant mix of sugar, milk and some sort of powder mixed with hot water and nothing else was offered. It is true they served fried eggs - 20 of them displayed oman unheated platter! To top it off I had placed two bottles of ice wine in the closet and when I went to take them out, they had been stolen. My Chinese friends tried to explain to the staff what had happened but there was very little interest in dealing with the theft. I am returning again to that part of Shanghai and will several more times but never again to this hotel. If you are a Westerner, stay away!
