a home from home
Love staying at the Maisonette, the room is beautiful, the location perfect, quiet, but handy to everything Sydney has to offer and the staff are lovely. It does not have a fancy restaurant, gym or pool, but what it does have is a real family feeling, where you feel appreciated and looked after, which I feel is more valuable. It's a home from home.

Cute and comfy
The maisonette is adorably cute! If like me you're at the age where you don't want to share a room with strangers but don't want to pay massive amounts for a private room then the maisonette is perfect! The room was clean and comfy, although if you are taller than average you may not fit in the bed however for average height me it was perfect. The staff friendly and helpful. The location was great, just out of Kings Cross but close enough to walk and then leave it all behind. The whole experience of staying there was fantastic!

Fantastic hotel - Amazing loca....
The staff at the Maisonette are so helpful and friendly making for an extra special experience! The rooms are beautifully and uniquely decorated and well appointed, with comfortable beds and careful attention given down to the last detail. The location is ideal - just a walk from the Botanic Gardens, the City, Elizabeth Bay and Kings Cross and public transport.
I will definitely stay here again and I highly recommend!!

I stayed at The Maisonette for almost a week. The staff was friendly and for the most part, very helpful. They require that you pay for the entire stay upon check in....I won't do that again until I make sure that the room was acceptable.
I had reserved a "Magnolia Room" which is more expensive but is advertised to have an updated bathroom. Upon check in I was given a room with a bath that clearly had not been updated, had only a shower curtain, and pipes that leaked when the water was turned on in the sink. I went down to the reception area and the lady very politely told me that the room was indeed a "Magnolia Room". She said that since I had requested a "quiet room" that they gave me this room. I showed her my confirmation for the "Magnolia Room", pictures on their website, and my correspondence with the hotel prior to my arrival. She said that they could move us to a different room, but we would have to pay extra for housekeeping to move the twin beds back in to a king configuration in the old room. Mind you, we had only been in the room all of about ten minutes maximum when I went down to talk to her. I advised her that that was completely unacceptable and that we wanted the room type that I had reserved. She finally said that she would look in to it and let us know later. My friend and I went sightseeing and later received an email that they would let us move and did not charge us for extra housekeeping. The new room was much larger, did have the updated bathroom, and looked out upon Challis Avenue.
The room and bathroom seemed to be very clean. However, towards the end of our stay, we started noticing roaches in the bathroom. Since reception is open only certain hours and we left very early in the morning for a day trip to the Blue Mountains, I emailed the hotel and told them about the roaches. They responded once they opened up reception, apologized, and left some roach spray. We got back to the hotel that evening (again, after reception closed) and sprayed the roach spray. The next morning, I once again saw a couple of roaches in the bathroom (apparently they were coming out from under the door frame).
The location is pretty good (about a 10 minute walk to King's Cross Station and close to a Woolworth's grocery store and restaurants) and the price was good. The wifi worked well in our second room. It was nice having a small refrigerator for drinks. But, after the experience that we had, I would not stay at this hotel again if I ever go back to Sydney.
