At least it was only two night....
Ok, room old, barely clean. Extremly worn. Wall paper peeling in places. Air con a waste of time.dont bother with any laundry through the hotel. Breskfast poor. 2-3 lifts out of order. Bed comfortable.wifi poor.no mini bar. Reception small and poorly manned at times so may have to wait 15-20 mins. I wouldnt choose to stay here again.

Rebranded as Tymis Plaza, with....
I stayed here a few years ago when it was a Golden Tulip hotel, the experience then was good value for money given the excellent location but lacking in a few things, namely the wifi was not free and was surcharged.
The stay this time seems to have addressed that issue as wifi is free and available throughout the hotel using your room credentials. So that is an excellent improvement.
Next, the suites seem to now have a mini kitchen with a fridge, hob, microwave and sink. This is an excellent change that really makes the place good value for money compared to similar serviced apartments in the same area.
The suites basically do resemble apartments with a sitting room, seperate bathroom and seperate bedroom and they are quite spacious as well. The TV was standard Chinese fare but does have ICS - an english languae channel that is a good alternative to the CCTV news channel. The TV also had a USB and HDMI connection slot.
Breakfast is ok, a mixture of Chinese and Western food. Served from 7 am - 10 am. Depending on the deal it is either included or a 40 RMB add on.
My previous review of this place said it was a good location for tourists - which it is. It is bang in the middle of West Nanjing Road street and 5 minutes away from all the cool elements of that part of Shanghai.
Additionally, the hotel now also has a very decent German restaurant bar that is open all day until late, serving good quality food and beer - the Haxenbauer franchise
For the price and location you really can't beat this one at the moment. I would stay there again.

Not a good experience... i won....
2 main reasons i wont recommend this hotel:
- The Hotel saves energy and does not open A/C unless its over 30 C.
- Staff was unprofessional and did not provide breakfast for 2 even tho we had an order for 2.
2 reason i would recommend this hotel:
+ Location is fine and near the city subway network.
+ Just a walk away from the best restaurants
Its not worth it...

The hotel is quite old, under renovation. The position is excellent just one block from west nanjing road and walking distance from west nanjing subway station. Use to have a budget price. The room is a bit dated but is clean without smoke smell.

Absolutely Best Value in the N....
Sure the hotel is run down... if you don't speak Chinese it will be frustrating... 1/2 the elevators never work... fixtures in the room are either missing or falling apart...however; what do you expect for less than $100 USD per night and you still get the basic toiletries and kitchenette...plus you are living within steps of a 6 star neighborhood where the other properties average $250 to $500 USD per night...and you are also within walking distance of one of the best expat pickup bars in Shanghai... so if it's a sleazy experience in a 6 star neighborhood... you've landed at the right joint...sheets and washroom are fairly clean. Lock up safes available in every room..
