We stayed as a family of four for two nights and we left unhappy. I will narrate my experience as pros and cons. Let me start with pros. Pros:
• Property looks beautiful and overall from the outside, it looks clean and beautiful
• The staff Abdulrahman and Asif were attentive and helpful
• The property has its intrinsic value during the winters when there is snow and ice all around, the waterfall freezes
• Near the popular Drung waterfall (may not be always functional) Cons: property is not in Gulmarg - It is in an isolated hilly area called Drung, which is associated with Gulmarg. The nearest market is 3 kms away and there are no easily available transport options. If tourists want to traveel teelther places (e.g. go to Gondola ride) the transportation is expensive. For as less distance of 7to 8 kms, the cost is Rs. 1,000 to 1500. The cost further increases because I felt (can`t prove) that the hotel / employee takes a cut in all external serv• The Resort management team lacks customer orientation. We booked a Deluxe Room for two adults and two children but when we arrived, we found only 1 double bed and a single bed. The Deluxe room was quite small for the 'Deluxe' tag. As a matter of fact, we were the only guests for these two nights at the property, but when I requested to be upgraded to a villa (for a 50% discount, considering that the property was empty), they told us that they would get back but they didn't. Finally, they offered us another single bed after politely haggling for 15 minutes.
• The demeanor of the staff at the Reception was less than friendly, serious straight faces, no smile, no effort to check if guests are happy etc. In spite of an empty property, they neither upgraded us nor gave any discount for upgrade (I offered to pay 50% of the upgrade)
• Summer trouble - even though the weather outside is cold and pleasant, since the property is designed for winter and interior walls have wood, the temperature inside was hot and there was no air-conditioning (they only have ceiling fans). e evening hours after we came back from sight-seeing, we had to keep the main door open with the ceiling fan running to feel comfortable. It became OK after 9:00 pm and we closed the main door and the fan running. In short, the property is not for summers.
• Hygiene issues - The lobby and Buffet area is full of flies and Rest Room / Toilet was dirty. There were no electric insect killers. On both days, we didn't enjoy breakfast because of flies
• Expensive Restaurant - The resort has a restaurant but the menu was overpriced
• Electricity problem: There is load-shedding in the area and electricity goes off intermittently and on one occasion, it took more than 10 minutes to restore electricity
• Internet problem: The Wi-Fi service at the hotel is not reliable. It works well when it works but the signal strength was poor and on the second day, the WiFi didn't work in the evening for more than an hour when I most needed it to respond to an urgent business email
• Mobile data signal is bad - The area has bad mobile data and signal quality and most of the time, mobile data didn't work and my mobile number was out of reach when others tried to reach me.
• Miscellaneous: The rooms have delicate ceramic cups and I accidentally broke one - I mean so delicate that it just slipped off my hand and fell 3 to 4 cms on the table and broke. The hotel charged me for the cup during checkout. As it is, the perceived value of paying Rs. 28000 and experience for two nights was so bad, this made it worse. Overall, this property is a basic 6 out of 10 and good only for the winter season and for one night.
