I recently stayed at Hotel GR Inn for 2 nights and 3 days after coming across a few decent reviews online. Since it was peak season and most hotels were charging exorbitant rates, this seemed like a reasonable option. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory.
The moment we arrived in Digha, we had to take a Toto to the hotel which cost us Rs. 100, and that’s when we realized how far the hotel is from Old Digha beach. Every outing ended up costing us Rs. 200 just on local travel – definitely not ideal if you plan to explore much.
The room itself was in a terrible state – there were visible cracks all over the walls, and the entire space had a musty, unpleasant smell. The bed sheets, pillow covers, and quilt were all stinking and looked like they hadn’t been changed in a while. We had to specifically ask the staff to replace them. The bathroom was no better – the jet spray was broken, which made things very inconvenient.
To make matters worse, the room had a mosquito problem, and the mosquito repellent provided was expired and completely useless.
On the first day, the staff seemed helpful, but by the second day, their behavior turned indifferent and even rude. We had breakfast included in our package, but it was nothing to look forward to. Day one was just about average with puri and sabji, but the next day we were served just two slices of bread and one omelette – hardly a meal for an adult.
Overall, the stay was disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable or pleasant experience. Definitely not worth the money, even at a relatively lower price. Better to spend a bit more and stay somewhere clean, convenient, and hospitable.
