Excellent value

It was my 4th stay this year, and it always felt like coming back to my 2nd home into that hostel. Situated in south of the lake, it would take 10-15 minutes walking from the train station/town center, thus if you carry heavy luggage a taxi would be a good idea. Otherwise walk your way beside the lake and enjoy the wonderful scenery. The hostel was always very clean, with polite; friendly and welcoming staff. Usually you might encounter a school group, but all-age visitors are possibility as well. The twin-bed room is basic, with a quite hard mattress and a very clean bathroom. Window view is very beautiful, whether your room faced the lake or south with view over the far mountains. Breakfast was plenty, the usual basic hostels standard. Be advised there is no wifi in the rooms. What makes this hostel stand out for me is the backyard area: relax beside the lake and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery early in the morning, or late afternoon. Outstanding value for the money, for those who would like to walk a lot.

Nice hostel by the lake

Nice, quiet, clean and friendly hostel with an amazing view on the lake. You can take your breakfast outside on the terrace with the lake in front of you! Books and games in the main room. It could be more cosy though.

One of the best, and right on ....

This Hostel is open to all ages, and is spotless, it is also on the lake side (the cleanest lake in europe, the water is as clear as Lake Tarho and you can watch the large trout swimming around. The staff are very friendly towards any Nationality, and the rooms are clean, it is exceptional value for money, and a one minute stroll to the centre, where there are great bars, Local cuisine, and pizza places etc. I would live here in a heart beat, it is a must when visiting this lovelly mountain Country. During winter it is permisable to walk across the frozen lake to the otherside ( when the thickness of the ice allows ) A 'chocolate box' picture perfect place...

Inconclusive

I stayed here in July - a bit pointless really as it's the off season and the town is deserted. On a plus side, this means that I was given a free upgrade to a solo room. I monopolised on this by strutting around naked and listening to Fatboy Slim. The hostel staff are friendly, the facilities great but there's no kitchen so it's more of a cheap hotel really.

Decent accommodation for schoo....

Stayed here as part of a school's skiing trip. The accommodation is very basic, but very clean and well kept - everything you need for a travelling school party. The location is amazing - looking out over the huge lake with views of the mountains in the background. The hotel has very good facilities, including big communal rooms with TVs and access to an athletics track, grass football pitches, hard court football pitch, basketball court and beach volleyball court. The hotel also has heated boot and ski room. The food is OK - evening meals usually consist of salad, soup and a main meal. Dessert is often disappointing and something like fruit. Breakfast is a plentiful continental selection and is self-service. One major downside is the abrupt staff, who take exception to anyone leaving food on their plate and their inability to communicate effectively, causing unnecessary upheaval on the last day. As it was end of season, we were told we would not have to vacate our rooms early on the day of departure, however we were then told on the morning of departure that we would in fact have to vacate our rooms. This was not ideal, as this had not been planned and caused huge disruption to our travelling school party. All in all, this is a great little base for skiing Zell am See and Kaprun for a few nights.
