Things to Do in Thiruvananthapuram

  • Aruvikkara Dam

Approximately 16 kilometres away from Trivandrum, Aruvikkara Dam is a popular picnic getaway for tourist and locals alike. Built on the banks of River Karamana, its scenic beauty has been untouched and unspoilt by regular city chores.

Pack some food and come here with your family and friends to unwind from a regular day of city life. Once you reach here, you can also visit Aruvikkara Devi Temple which has a shrine of Goddess Durga.

  • Thiruvananthapuram Zoo

Also known as the Zoological Park, Thiruvananthapuram Zoo spans across an area of 55 acres of land, lakes and lawns; this is the oldest zoo in Trivandrum. Built in the year 1857, the zoo was setup with some caged animals for recreation purposes. However, now the focus has shifted to animal conservation.

The zoo houses around 82 animal species including lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, Indian rhinoceros, leopard, zebras, giraffes, Asiatic elephants and lions and Royal Bengal Tiger. One of the most interesting parts of the zoo is the snake farm which has both poisonous as well as non-poisonous snakes.

Apart from this, you can also do bird-watching here and it can be a different experience for your family than the usual sightseeing.
