Things to Do in Hyderabad

  • Deccan Festival

Celebrating the spirit of Hyderabad city, this festival sees the best of art and literature. Managed and promoted by the department of Andhra Pradesh Tourism, it is a five-day long festival. Every year in the month of February, the Deccan festival witnesses the scintillating Ghazals, Mushairas and Qawwali performers showcasing their talent. It is not just poetry and dance which will mesmerise you but city’s local crafts and special cuisine too will tempt you to attend the festival.

Make sure you buy colourful bangles and beautiful pearl ornaments from the fair inside the festival.

  • Purani Haveli

Purani Haveli is a fine specimen of the architectural expertise of the Nizams of Hyderabad. This place was initially built as a residence of Mir Momen, the Prime Minister or Peshwa of Muhammed Quli Qutub Shah in the 16th century. Later, in the 18th century, it was taken over by the second Nizam of Hyderabad who renovated it with the intention of passing it to his son. However, his son lived here for a short period and moved his residence to some other place. It was left abandoned for quite a long time, and that is how the edifice got its name - Purani Haveli. This place regained its glory when the sixth generation of the Nizams decided to shift back to this place.

Built over 200 years ago, this building reflects impeccable European architecture. The structure of the palace is U-shaped with two double storeyed oval shaped wings positioned adjacent to each other. One distinct feature of this palace is its wardrobe, which is believed to be the world's largest. You will be surprised to find that this wardrobe is built across two levels and connected with a hand-crank wooden elevator.

Visit the on-site museum that has on display some souvenirs and rewards presented to the last generation of the Nizams of Hyderabad. Worth mentioning among them are vintage cars like 1930-Rolls Royce, Jaguar Mark 5 and Packard.
