Things to Do in Bali

  • Kintamani

A day trip to Kintamani village includes a climb up to Mount Batur, which is a small volcano. When you climb the mountain, you can see active volcano cones along the slope. Climbing up the mountain takes a couple of hours and once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views from here.

Lake Batur, which surrounds the mountain, is where you can indulge in leisure activities like boating and cycling.

  • Dolphin Cruise

Enjoy a dolphin cruise at Lovina beach. You can sail with the dolphins just when the sun is rising; a spectacular sight! This cruise is usually 45 minutes long, though you can ask for an add-on trip to the Gitgit Waterfall and Lake Bratan.

History of Bali

The history of Bali is strongly influenced by Chinese, Malaysian and Hindu culture. Nine Hindu sects existed in ancient Bali namely Pasupata, Bhairawa, Siwa Shidanta, Waisnawa, Bodha, Brahma, Resi, Sora and Ganapatya. The Hindu empire founded a Balinese colony in Java in 1343.  After the declination of the empire, a large number of artists, musicians and intellectuals moved to Bali in the 15th century. The Dutch explorers arrived in Bali in 1597 and established the Dutch East India Company in 1602. Later, during World War 2, Japan occupied Bali. During the Japanese reign, Balinese ‘Freedom Army’ was formed. Japan surrendered in 1945, prompting the Dutch to return to Indonesia and reinstate their pre-war administration. In 1946, the Dutch constituted Bali as one of the administrative districts and Indonesian independence was recognized on 29th December, 1949.
