Things to Do in Bali

  • Puri Saren Palace

Puri Saren Palace is the royal palace in Ubud. Apart from the grandeur and architecture of the palace, you can also enjoy the best traditional dance performances in town here.

Performances start at 7 pm and everyday sees a full house so it’s best to reach early and grab a front seat.

  • Bird Walks

Opt for a guided bird walk around Ubud and spot beautiful varieties of birds while walking hand in hand amidst nature. Bird Walks are also a lot of fun for the kids.

History of Bali

The history of Bali is strongly influenced by Chinese, Malaysian and Hindu culture. Nine Hindu sects existed in ancient Bali namely Pasupata, Bhairawa, Siwa Shidanta, Waisnawa, Bodha, Brahma, Resi, Sora and Ganapatya. The Hindu empire founded a Balinese colony in Java in 1343.  After the declination of the empire, a large number of artists, musicians and intellectuals moved to Bali in the 15th century. The Dutch explorers arrived in Bali in 1597 and established the Dutch East India Company in 1602. Later, during World War 2, Japan occupied Bali. During the Japanese reign, Balinese ‘Freedom Army’ was formed. Japan surrendered in 1945, prompting the Dutch to return to Indonesia and reinstate their pre-war administration. In 1946, the Dutch constituted Bali as one of the administrative districts and Indonesian independence was recognized on 29th December, 1949.
