Things to Do in Tirupati

  • Sitamma Theertham

Sitamma Theertham is a sacred water body found near the main temple in Tirupati. It is believed that Lord Brahma observed repentance at this site and Lord Vishnu plunged the Sudarshana Chakram for cleansing the place. The spot where the Chakram fell is called the Chakra Theertham.

Apart from the water body, the place also has a small temple of Swayambu Lingam, which is believed to have sacred powers. Devotees from all over the country come every year to take a dip in the holy water in the quest to cleanse their sins.

  • ISKCON Tirupati

ISKCON is a popular spiritual philosophy, which has gained a reputation amongst theologians, scholars, and devotees across the world.

With various temples in multiple cities, His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada went to Tirupati-Tirumala as a special guest of the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1974-75. It was during this visit that he was extremely touched after the Darshan of Lord Sri Venkateswara, and the large following that the Lord had here. He then suggested the idea of reviving and spreading the ideals of the Bhagavad-Gita through an ISKCON temple in Tirupati.

Visitors can also choose to live in the temple’s guesthouse. You can write for accommodation enquiries at guesthouse.tirupati@pamho.net.
