History of Kerala

The Christians arrived from the Middle East in the 3rd century followed by the Muslims in the 8th century. The Jews who came in the early years of Christianity became traders and important part of Kerala’s history. During the many years that consisted of Feudalism, Kerala went into the conflict zone due to lack of strong, central leadership. This weakness was utilized by the Europeans who went on to explore and rule the rich land of spices and gold for two centuries. By the beginning of the 19th century, Malabar and Travancore in the north came under the British Madras Presidency. Almost after a decade of India’s independence, in 1956 modern Kerala emerged from Malabar.
