  • Bara Bazaar

    Bara Bazaar is an old and popular marketplace in Nainital, which is situated in the bustling Mallital region. This market is considered as a major landmark of the town as it has been here since decades.

    A number of souvenirs and local specialities are available for purchase in this market. Beautiful handmade candles in a plethora of designs and colours serve as a major highlight of this place. Canestick and wooden showpieces are also sold here, which are popular among tourists.

    The garment shops sell traditionally-woven woollen clothes like shawls, scarves and cardigans. This unique market also earns recognition for freshly-prepared squashes, jams and other items, which are in huge demand among locals as well as tourists. Several restaurants are present all over the market, where tourists can try an array of delicacies, including local specialities.

  • Governor's House

    "Raj Bhawan – the Governor's House in Nainital is an imposing edifice that serves as the official residence of the Governor of Uttarakhand. It serves host to state guests and notable personalities coming to Nainital, apart from being the home of the State Governor.

    The architecture of the Governor's House bears a striking resemblance to the Buckingham Palace, which makes it one of the most beautiful reminders of the British era in India. Designed in Gothic style, this edifice has been built using different types of stones like grey marble, dolomite limestone, Naloina freestone and Agra's red sandstone. Exquisite woods like teak, shisham, satin wood, sal, pine wood and cypress are used in the flooring, stairs, doors and windows.

    Apart from the main building, the Governor's House has beautiful gardens, swimming pool and a sprawling 50-acre golf course. This 18-hole golf course is the prime attraction and has hosted several golf competitions.

How to Reach Nainital

By Air

Being a hill station, Nainital does not have direct air connectivity. The nearest airport is located at Pantnagar, which lies at a distance of 65 kilometres from Nainital. Most of the air traffic to Pantnagar airport includes private chartered flights. There are no commercial flights operational to and from here.

The second nearest airport is in New Delhi which is approximately 290 kilometres away from the central town in Nainital. Delhi airport is well-connected to different cities across the globe. You can hire private taxis from the airport which will charge you around Rs. 4000 to 4500. If you are looking for an economical option, then you can board a train from the Delhi railway station.


By Bus

Nainital enjoys excellent bus connectivity to important destinations in North India. Several tour operators operate daily bus service from New Delhi to Nainital, which includes options like air-conditioned, non-air-conditioned, sleeper and Volvo buses. Boarding an overnight bus is the most convenient way to head to Nainital, although some buses operate during the daytime as well.


By Train

The nearest railway station is located at a distance of 34 kilometres at Kathgodham, at the foothills of the Kumaon hills. Kathgodam railway station enjoys good connectivity to important places such as Delhi, Lucknow and Howrah, with daily trains running to New Delhi.

Some of the popular trains that ply from Kathgodam station are Ranikhet Express, Uttar Sampark, Kranti Express, Bagh Express, Dehradun Kathgodam Express and Anvt Kgm Shatabdi Express. Outside the railway station, you can either hire a shared cab or board a private taxi which will take you to the city.
