Things to Do in Amritsar

  • ISKCON Amritsar Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda Temple

    At a walking distance form the world famous Golden Temple, the ISKCON Amritsar Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda Temple is one of the prime attractions of Amritsar. The temple was founded by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The temple houses the idols of many Hindu gods and goddesses with Shri Krishna and Goddess Radha’s being the most important one. At the temple, you can buy spiritual books, pictures of gods and T-shirts.

  • Akal Takht

    Akal Takht serves as one of the five seats of Sikh religious authority. Akal which means the ‘Timeless One’ while Takht means ‘the throne’. Translated, Akal Takht means the ‘Throne of the Immortal’. It is also the central altar for the Sikh political assembly. Shri Guru Hargobind Singh laid the foundation stone of the Akal Takht building in 1605.

    The building faces the Darshini Deorhi, which leads to the Golden Temple. Originally the Akal Takht was just 3.5 metres higher from the ground. Today, it’s a 5 storey building with gold leafed dome.

By Bus

Amritsar Railway Station is the main station in the city and is well connected to almost all major cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Agra, and Chandigarh, among others. A train journey from Delhi to Amritsar takes a little over 6 hours.
