  • Driving to Kaza from Manali can be a tricky experience. Hence, avoid self-drive rentals and book a reliable cab and driver instead. You can also take a bus to reach the location.  
  • You can only include the Kunzum Pass in your itinerary if you book Spiti valley packages between June and September. It stays frozen for the rest of the year. The area does not have any eateries and you should stock up on basic provisions beforehand.  
  • You cannot add camping at the Chandratal Lake to your list of activities while booking Spiti valley packages from Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi or other cities. While it was allowed earlier, the authorities have stopped the practice within a 3 km-radius of the lake.  
  • Kaza has only 1-2 ATMs which may run out of cash easily. Hence, you should carry sufficient cash to meet the cost of your trip.  
  • Sarchu-based camps are also shut down in the winter season due to snowfall.  
  • Photography is not allowed within the temples and monasteries in the region.  
  • If you are booking Spiti valley tour packages from Chandigarh or other cities, make sure to keep multiple copies of permits in hand. You will have to submit them at several checkpoints throughout the area and particularly when you travel to Sarchu.

How to Reach Spiti Valley  

The route to Spiti from Manali stays closed for a large chunk of the year. If you book a Spiti valley travel package with flights, then you can arrive at the Kullu airport which is 260 km away from the region (7-8 hours). Another option for tourists booking Spiti valley packages from Bangalore or other cities is to take trains to the Joginder Nagar railway station (360 km away from Spiti). A long journey by road will still be required to reach your destination after your arrival at the station.  

You can also travel to Spiti by road. Those booking Spiti valley tour packages from Chandigarh have to cover 503 kilometres (10-11 hours) by road. Many people embark on a road trip from the national capital and choose from Spiti valley packages from Delhi available online. There are routes to Spiti Valley from Manali (196 km) and Shimla (416 km) too.
