Not a well run hotel, the staff seem clueless.
Annoyances - very unprofessional, they seemed clueless on check-in and check-out. On check-in the 4 guys at reception looked at us blankly, confused as to why we were there! Also we checked out at 7.30am the next day (as had a taxi booked as heading to the Sundarbans and had an early ferry to catch - so no time to waste!) and though we had already paid for the room through MMT before arriving, and paid for dinner the night before in the restaurant, the security guard was insistent on us waiting for the ‘manager’??!!! The security guard passed the phone to us, and presumably the manager said he’d be there in 5 mins so to wait? All very strange and unprofessional.
The room we had (402) slightly smelt of cigarette smoke, and the window didn’t close properly - so the sound proofing wasn’t as good. You could also hear other guests in the corridors, room doors slamming and the lift every time it went up or down- so soundproofing wasn’t as good as it could be.
Food in the restaurant for dinner was below average too. Pretty bland and tasteless / low quality. So wouldn’t recommend eating there. There seemed to be a good few cafes in close walking distance a block or two away. Luckily as we left early we didn’t go in for the breakfast option. So can’t comment on this.
One of the towels was stained.
Pro’s - room was small, but clean enough. New grey furniture! Bed was comfy and bed linen was clean. The shower was hot and fine. The area was quiet with very little road traffic noise. They didn’t provide toilet paper, but on asking, it was readily provided.
We are heading back to Kolkata in a few days and won’t be opting to stay back here as much more care and professionalism required!
