Things to Do in Thiruvananthapuram

  • Shri Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Often used as a synonym for Trivandrum or called as the city’s epicentre; Shri Padmanabhaswamy Temple is the most iconic attraction in the city. Backed by such a splendid architecture with a tall gopuram, you surely cannot miss the sight of this temple.

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple houses the main shrine of Padmanabhaswamy in a sleeping posture over the five-headed serpent Anantha, which is quite a rage among locals and visitors alike. The main shrine is accompanied by two shrines of Goddess Sridevi and Goddess Bhudevi who stand on his either side.

You must obey the temple rules else you will be barred to enter the temple premises. Note that only Hindus are permitted to enter the temple. Be careful with your clothes when visiting the temple. All men are supposed to wear dhotis which you can rent from the nearby shops. Women should dress either in a saree or fully-covered skirt and blouse or set-mundu (South-India’s traditional attire).

  • Paintings from La GALLERY 360

If you are an art-lover, if architecture beholds you; then you must buy that rare piece of art from this exclusive store in Trivandrum. Marvel at the many works of contemporary artists who have painted the canvas brilliantly in vibrant hues.

Very few stores would actually sell original art but at La Gallery 360, you can buy some of the finest paintings. However, the sole aim of the store is to educate people about the rich Indian heritage and creativity by displaying the works of modern artists.
