My recent stay in kookal, kodaikanal was a mix of delightful moments and disappointing experiences. Nestled in a picturesque and serene green landscape, the location of the homestay was truly enchanting. The abundance of trees, the lush lawn, and the breathtaking views were a treat for the soul. One of the highlights was the complimentary firewood provided by the homestay, both inside the rooms and outside. It added a cozy touch to the overall experience. The presence of a nearby lake and a small waterfall within the village further enhanced the natural beauty surrounding the property. However, there were a few challenges that affected our stay. Firstly, the unstable electricity was a major inconvenience, especially upon our arrival when there was no power at night. Although it initially seemed unsettling due to the presence of numerous pet dogs in the premises, we discovered that they were friendly and posed no threat. Another issue we encountered was the difficulty in obtaining hot water. The caretakers seemed clueless about operating the geyser, and we had to rely on them heating water on a wood stove and bringing it to our room. Even when the geyser was eventually switched on, it took an unusually long time to provide hot water, causing inconvenience for our group of five. The quality of food was also disappointing. The cook lacked the expertise to prepare chicken biryani, resulting in a mixture of chicken curry and rice instead. The curries, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, were surprisingly bland, with limited options in terms of vegetable selection. Despite these setbacks, the stunning scenery and the vast green premises were the saving grace of our stay. The presence of a shuttle court added a recreational element to the experience. However, it is important to note that while maintaining a property in a forested area presents challenges, basic facilities should still be provided to ensure a satisfactory stay. In conclusion, my stay at kookal, kodaikanal was a mixed bag of experiences. The breathtaking location and serene surroundings earned the homestay three stars. However, the unstable electricity, hot water issues, and subpar food quality were significant drawbacks that hindered the overall enjoyment of our stay.
