If you have opted for a Holiday with Frills - Today you are taken on a full day Barong Kintamani excursion with lunch. After you are picked up at the hotel approximately at 08.30, you will be taken to see Barong Dance performance at Batubulan, a dance that describes the fight between good and evil where all the performers wear unique masks. Then proceed to Kintamani to enjoy the panorama of the semi-active volcano, Mount Batur which stands majestically over the beautiful Batur lake whilst enjoying lunch (vegetarian and non-veg Indonesian). After lunch drive to Goa Gajah, the famous elephant cave.

Day 1
Airport - Kandy (120 Kms/ 3 hrs)
Spend a perfect holiday in Sri Lanka which commences upon arrival at the Colombo airport. Thereafter make way to Kandy which is 116 kilometres from Colombo. Lying amidst the hills, Kandy is the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka. With its luxuriant prairie, picturesque lake, longest river of the country and misty mountains, Kandy mesmerizes every visitor. Before check-in, at the hotel, head for the Kandy city tour. During the four hours journey from Colombo to Kandy, stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to enjoy the exceptional experience of feeding and bathing elephants. After creating some wonderful memories, continue your drive to Kandy. When in Kandy, head for the Kandy city tour which includes visit one of the world heritages as well as a sacred place for the Buddhists all over the world; namely the Temple of tooth Relic known to the Sri Lankans as Dalada Maligawa. Kandy - Nuwara Eliya (90 Kms/ 3 Hrs)
Check-out from the Kandy hotel after relishing a delicious breakfast and embark on a ride to Nuwara Eliya. When in Nuwara Eliya, visit the main attractions of the town like a golf course, trout streams, Victoria Park and boating or fishing on Lake Gregory. Your next visit is to a working tea factory where the slow-growing tea bushes of this highland region produce some of the world's finest Orange Pekoe tea. Later Proceed for Seetha Eliya which is believed to be the spot where Sita was held captive by the demon king Rawana (own expense). This was the place where Sita used to pray daily for Rama to come and rescue her. You could also consider visiting Haggala, a temperate hill-country garden.(Note: Do note that entrance fees to all these sights aren't included.)After the excursion, head to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Nuwara Eliya - Bentota (140 Kms/6 hrs)
After treating yourself to a delicious breakfast, check-out from the hotel and embark on a 140 kilometre long ride to reach Bentota which is home to some of the finest beaches in the Sri Lanka’s south-west coast. This quintessential laid-back seaside gateway is just the perfect places to laze around and take part in water sports activities. When in Bentota, enjoy Madhu river safari (at an additional cost) to watch the unique tradition of stilt fishing. Experience the natural rhythms while passing by islets forested with mangroves. For more exclusive experience, head for an excursion to Turtle Hatchery, a sea turtle conservation project operated by the Wildlife Protection Society of Sri Lanka to see all the volunteers work to save baby turtles. After being fed, the baby turtles are taken to the sea and released when they are 2-4 days old, usually during the safer hours of darkness. Pinnawala - Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage
App. 90km away from Colombo. Off Colombo-Kandy road is Pinnawala, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased now, including baby elephants brought from various parts, as well as the babies born, as a result of the captive breeding programs. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by.

"Kandy - KandyKANDY ? the hill capital is another ?World Heritage Site?. It was the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kings during the Portuguese, Dutch and British rule and finally ceded to the British in 1815 after an agreement.
To the Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the World, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the ?Dalada Maligawa? - Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.
Close by are the remains of the Royal Palace (?Maha Wasala?), ?Palle Wasala?- where the Queens stayed-now used for the National Museum, ?Meda Wasala? where other close relatives lived, Audience Hall, Natha Devala and Vishnu Devala are situated close by. The Bathing Pavilion (?Ulpenge?) is by the Lake and in the Center of the lake is the Island called ?Kiri samudraya? (Milk white ocean) used by the kings as the summerhouse.
Today it is the center of Buddhism, Arts, Crafts, Dancing, Music and
Culture.

Nuwara Eliya - Tea Plantation
Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from China. More were introduced from Assam in 1839.
In 1867, a Scottish Planter named James Taylor planted tea seedlings in an 8 hectares of forestland, in the Loolkondura Estate.
In 1873, the tea export industry of Sri Lanka began with a modest 23 lbs. being shipped to London.
Tea will grow only on rolling terrain and is classified by elevation into low grown, medium grown and high grown into 3 main groups. Today more than 200,000 hectares in highlands and other areas are under Tea and around 300 million Kilograms, with a 25% of world tea
exports are done by Sri Lanka as the World?s largest Tea exporter.
Ramboda - Ramboda Falls
A gigantic water fall having three parts and very close to the 53km post along the above A-5 trunk road. The first part is above the road in the jungle (100m), second part is close to the road (3m) and the third part (100m)is below the road.
Traveler should descends to the ""Ramboda basin"", where the famous ""Ramboda Inn"" situated from where he can see the whole fall. When we were there the upper part was covered with a fog and what you see in the picture was the third part. If look carefully, one can notice a bus on the bridge over the A-5 road at the top of the photo.

According to the Indian Epic Ramayanaya and the legends, the area where Sita, Queen of King Rama of Ayodhya in India, who was abducted by Ravana the King of Sri Lanka, was kept in hiding and the area she roamed is in the hill country of Sri Lanka.
In Nuwara Eliya is the ""Sita Amman Kovil"" - a quaint little Kovil, with the statues of Rama, Sita, Hanuman, Lakshmana and Sugriva.
This is supposed to be the only Kovil in the entire World dedicated to Sita. The stream by the side of the Temple is a famous spot where she went for bathing.
Out of the 13 Palaces of Ravana, two caves in the Strict Nature Reserve of Hakgala, starting from Temple land and the cave at Ella close to the waterfall ""Ravana-Ella"" (1080ft. high) where Ravana went for bathing, are supposed to be three Palaces Sita was kept in hiding.The Hakgala Gardens may be the ""Ashok Vanaya"" of Ramayana where Rhododendrons identified as Ashok Flowers in the epic, are found in bloom throughout the year.
Nuwara Eliya
The ?Little England? of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.
The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and is also good for Birding as you get some rare birds in this Park.Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (march to May) and the fall (August and September). It is one of the most famous places for White Water Rafting adventures. However there are many more reasons why this spot, just 100 kms from the capital Colombo, is well worth visiting. Chief among these are the historic Beli Lena Caves where the pre-historic Balangoda Man supposed to have lived. The caves are reached after a short 10km drive from the main road through the Kitulgala tea estate. David Lean?s epic war film ?Bridge on the River Kwai? was filmed in this area of the Kelani River, which runs through Kitulgala, and the ruins of the bridge still remains.
In the Kelani Valley forest reserve is a low elevation forest where you get to see rare and endemic birds, including the latest Serendib scops Owl ( Otus thilo Hoffmani), ampibians, reptiles,frogs,endemic fishes in the stream, endemic tree snails & if lucky mammals including mousedeer, monkeys and other small animals.Traveeling to & from the forest can be done by boat.

Kosgoda - Turtle Hatchery
Where you can see five species of turtles-Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas), Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta caretta), Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) and Olive Ridley Turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea).
The eggs collected by the Villagers and Fishermen are purchased by the Kosgoda Hatchery and kept in sandy pens until they are hatched. The newly hatched ones are kept in seawater tanks and released to the sea in the night. This Hatchery alone has released more then
1,750,000 young turtles to the sea. An endowment by the Hasselblad Estate was responsible for the establishment of this hatchery.

Quality is generally assured at the higher end stores, if purchasing at other locations, use your judgment when buying expensive items. Welcome to Colombo! Our representative will meet you at the Bandaranaike International Airport and then you?ll be escorted to your vehicle to begin your holiday in Sri Lanka.
En route to your destination, you can visit one of the most important tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Volunteers and caretakers provide shelter and take care of orphaned, abandoned and injured elephants within the park. You can watch caretakers feed, bathe and help these animals. You can also walk with the herd to the nearby river to watch the elephants bathe and play around in water. [Entrance fees not included]. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in Kandy.

You?ll will start exploring Kandy. Lying amidst the hills, Kandy is the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka. While being the second largest city in Sri Lanka, it is also famous for its immense beauty and is named as one of the seven UNESCO World Heritage sites in the country. With its luxuriant prairie, picturesque lake, longest river of the country and misty mountains, Kandy mesmerizes every visitor.
While on your city tour, you will visit one of the world heritage sites as well as a sacred place for the Buddhists all over the world; namely the Temple of Tooth Relic known in Sri Lanka as Dalada Maligawa. Then you will proceed to the Kandy Lake where you can enjoy a leisure walk. The real evidence of the richness will be affirmed by your visit to the Gem Museum, where you can check semi-precious gems, namely the sapphires of Sri Lanka, which are very exclusive and come in shades of blue, red, green, white etc. In the evening, you will witness a traditional cultural dance show. Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
Transfer from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya - The ?Little England? of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.
The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and is also good for Birding as you get some rare birds in this Park.
Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (march to May) and the fall (August and September). These are the ?seasons? when low-country folk flock to Nuwara Eliya to escape the sea level heat and humidity.

Many colonial buildings influenced by the Portuguese, Dutch and British exist alongside structures built in Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Indian and contemporary architectural styles. In no other place is this more evident than the Fort area in the heart of the city. Colombo also boasts of many shopping malls and department stores that offer branded clothing at highly discounted prices. Therefore, it has become an important shopping destination among tourists.

Once you arrive at the park, you can enjoy at numerous waterslides like Pipeline and Twin Racers along with twisting and turning on the longest waterslide in the world. Arrival in Sri Lanka - Kandy
Upon arrival at the Colombo International Airport you will be received by one of our representative at the airport. Enroute visit Sigiriya - Ancient city Then transferred to your hotel in Kandy. Kandy is about 100km from the airport. Lying amidst the hills, Kandy is the last capital of the ancient kings of Sri Lanka. While being the second largest city in Sri Lanka it is also famous for its immense beauty and is named as one of the seven UNESCO declared World Heritage sites in the country. With its luxuriant prairie, picturesque lake, Longest River of the country and misty mountains, Kandy successfully mesmerizes every visitor unsurprisingly. Heavily jeweled with a rich and colorful history is witnessed through the numerous shrines and temples as well as frescoes, ancient paintings and stone carvings. City Tour While on your city tour you will visit one of the world heritages as well as a sacred place for the Buddhists all over the world; namely the Temple of tooth Relic known to the Sri Lankans as Dalada Maligawa. Your next visit will be to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens which is a paradise for nature lovers. This beautiful flower Eden is restored with over 300 different varieties of orchids, other spices, medicinal plants and Palm trees. Every year more than 1.2 million people are enchanted by the beauty of these 147 acre flower gardens. The real evidence of the richness will be affirmed by your visit to the Gem Museum. Nuwara Eliya (City of Lights), Blessed with salubrious climate, breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains and greenery; Surrounded by hills and tea plantations, the town of Nuwara Eliya enjoys spring-like weather throughout the year. It is also known as \'Little\' England\', which was the favorite hill station of the British who tried to create Nuwara Eliya into a typical English Village. The old brick Post office, country house like hill club with its hunting pictures, trophies and strict formal dinner attire; the 18 hole golf course, horse race course, etc., all remind you of \'England\'. City tour During the city tour in Nuwara Eliya you will visit the main attractions of the town which include the golf course, trout streams, Victoria Park, and boating or fishing on Lake Gregory. You can also visit a working tea factory where the slow-growing tea bushes of this highland region produce some of the world\'s finest Orange Pekoe tea. You can also add Seetha Eliya and Haggala Gardens. Seetha Eliya is a temple which was mentioned in the famous epic Ramayana. Haggala is a temperate hill-country garden where also the languid low-country lotus and water lily floats in their serene loveliness. The hakgala Botanical Gardens is one of the lovely contrasts of Sri Lanka, a home to plants and trees from around the world, making them seem to be a part of the scenic beauty. Proceed to Galle (Hikkaduwa). Galle is a beautiful city to witness the sun and sand. Galle Harbor was frequented by Chinese sailors and Arabians before the Portuguese occupied Galle in the 16th century. The Dutch captured Galle in 1640 and handed it over to the British in 1796. History reveals that the Chinese Admiral Zheng He, who commanded seven great voyages through the South China Seas and the Indian Ocean between 1405 and 1433, erected a tablet in 1409 in Galle in commemoration of his second visit to Sri Lanka. The trilingual tablet discovered in 1911 has inscriptions in Chinese, Tamil and Arabic languages, suggesting that the Chinese were dealing with a cosmopolitan trading community at that time. City tour During your city tour you will visit the Galle Dutch Fort which is among the most popular sites in Galle where it attracts those who value archaeological reserves and heritage. It is known as the oldest fort in Asia, named as a world heritage by UNESCO. Inside the fort, travelers can find other attractions such as the Dutch Museum, which contains paintings, pictures and furniture of the Dutch Reformed Church. The fort is built on small peninsula that can be easily accessed from the Galle town. It is the best place to visit during an evening as the picturesque scenery of the sunset can be witnessed at its best. The trilingual inscription is in the National Museum in Colombo and a copy can be found in the Maritime Museum in Galle.

Day 01 Airport ? Munneswaram - Kandy
Arrival in Sri Lanka. You will be met by Make My Trip local representative and get transferred to Munneswaram Temple, Chilaw. (40 km distance; approximately 90 minute drive)

* After his victorious battle, Lord Rama left for Ayodhya in one of King Ravana?s vimanas (carriages). He felt he was being followed by bramhaasthi dosham as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin. Legend has it that when he came to this place he felt bramhaasthi dosham was still following him and he stopped the vimana and asked Lord Shiva for a remedy. Lord Shiva blessed Lord Rama and advised him to install four lingams there and pray to get rid of the dosham. Since then many Hindu devotees flock to the temple.
Thereafter proceed to Manavari Temple. (Approximately 20 minute drive)
Manawari Temple.
* Manavari is the first lingam installed and prayed to by Lord Rama and this lingam is also called Ramalinga Shivan.After the tour, proceed to Kandy (3 hrs. drive). Upon arrival, check-in to hotel in Kandy.

After breakfast go for a city tour of Kandy, including Upper Lake Drive, Market Square and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
* Kandy - The hill capital and venue of the annual Perahera, Kandy was the last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings which was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of Buddhism?s influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple shrines and monasteries keeping Buddhist traditions alive are everywhere.
* Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Entrance fee applies) - Ever since 4th century A.D, when the Buddha?s tooth was brought to Sri Lanka, hidden from sacrilegious hands. Since then, the relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. It is consideredSri Lanka?s most prized possession.

After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En route visit the Sri Baktha Hanuman temple.

On these hills of Ramboda where Hanuman was searching for Sita, the Chinmaya mission of Sri Lanka built a temple with Hanuman as the presiding deity. On every full moon day, special poojas are conducted and witnessed by thousands of devotees.After the tour visit Seetha Amman Temple.

The stream that runs from the hill catered to the needs of Sita during her stay at Ashoka Vatika. She is said to have bathed in this stream. Now there is a temple erected for Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman by the side of this stream. It is interesting to note that foot prints similar to Lord Hanuman?s are found by this river.Check in at the hotel.
In the evening visit the Gayathri Pe(e)dam in Nuwara Eliya.

It is believed to be the place from where King Ravana?s son Meghanath propitiated Lord Shiva with penance and prayers and was in turn granted super natural powers by Lord Shiva.

After breakfast at the hotel proceed to Colombo. Upon arrival, check in to hotel. After a short rest proceed for your city tour.

* This is the only temple in the world to have a chariot of Anjaneyar.
Thereafter commence a tour ofColombo, which includes time to do the shopping.

Visit the former British administrative center and military garrison, Sea Street - the goldsmith's quarters in the heart of Pettah, the Bazaar area, where there is a Hindu temple with elaborate stone carvings, and the Dutch Church of Wolfendhal dating back to 1749 AD. The historic Dawatagaha Mosque and the former Eye Hospital are two buildings in Cinnamon Gardens worth looking at. Also visit the BMICH, see the replica of Avukana Buddha and the Independence Square.

Pinnawala - Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage
App. 90km away from Colombo. Off Colombo-Kandy road is Pinnawala, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased now, including baby elephants brought from various parts, as well as the babies born, as a result of the captive breeding programs. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by.

"Kandy - KandyKANDY ? the hill capital is another ?World Heritage Site?. It was the last stronghold of the Sinhalese Kings during the Portuguese, Dutch and British rule and finally ceded to the British in 1815 after an agreement.
To the Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the World, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the ?Dalada Maligawa? - Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.
Close by are the remains of the Royal Palace (?Maha Wasala?), ?Palle Wasala?- where the Queens stayed-now used for the National Museum, ?Meda Wasala? where other close relatives lived, Audience Hall, Natha Devala and Vishnu Devala are situated close by. The Bathing Pavilion (?Ulpenge?) is by the Lake and in the Center of the lake is the Island called ?Kiri samudraya? (Milk white ocean) used by the kings as the summerhouse.

Nuwara Eliya - Tea Plantation
Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from China. More were introduced from Assam in 1839.
In 1867, a Scottish Planter named James Taylor planted tea seedlings in an 8 hectares of forestland, in the Loolkondura Estate.
In 1873, the tea export industry of Sri Lanka began with a modest 23 lbs. being shipped to London.
Tea will grow only on rolling terrain and is classified by elevation into low grown, medium grown and high grown into 3 main groups. Today more than 200,000 hectares in highlands and other areas are under Tea and around 300 million Kilograms, with a 25% of world tea
exports are done by Sri Lanka as the World?s largest Tea exporter.
Ramboda - Ramboda Falls
A gigantic water fall having three parts and very close to the 53km post along the above A-5 trunk road. The first part is above the road in the jungle (100m), second part is close to the road (3m) and the third part (100m)is below the road.
Traveler should descends to the ""Ramboda basin"", where the famous ""Ramboda Inn"" situated from where he can see the whole fall. When we were there the upper part was covered with a fog and what you see in the picture was the third part. If look carefully, one can notice a bus on the bridge over the A-5 road at the top of the photo.

According to the Indian Epic Ramayanaya and the legends, the area where Sita, Queen of King Rama of Ayodhya in India, who was abducted by Ravana the King of Sri Lanka, was kept in hiding and the area she roamed is in the hill country of Sri Lanka.
In Nuwara Eliya is the ""Sita Amman Kovil"" - a quaint little Kovil, with the statues of Rama, Sita, Hanuman, Lakshmana and Sugriva.
This is supposed to be the only Kovil in the entire World dedicated to Sita. The stream by the side of the Temple is a famous spot where she went for bathing.
Out of the 13 Palaces of Ravana, two caves in the Strict Nature Reserve of Hakgala, starting from Temple land and the cave at Ella close to the waterfall ""Ravana-Ella"" (1080ft. high) where Ravana went for bathing, are supposed to be three Palaces Sita was kept in hiding.The Hakgala Gardens may be the ""Ashok Vanaya"" of Ramayana where Rhododendrons identified as Ashok Flowers in the epic, are found in bloom throughout the year.
Nuwara Eliya
The ?Little England? of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.
The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and is also good for Birding as you get some rare birds in this Park.Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (march to May) and the fall (August and September). It is one of the most famous places for White Water Rafting adventures. However there are many more reasons why this spot, just 100 kms from the capital Colombo, is well worth visiting. The caves are reached after a short 10km drive from the main road through the Kitulgala tea estate. David Lean?s epic war film ?Bridge on the River Kwai? was filmed in this area of the Kelani River, which runs through Kitulgala, and the ruins of the bridge still remains.

The eggs collected by the Villagers and Fishermen are purchased by the Kosgoda Hatchery and kept in sandy pens until they are hatched. The newly hatched ones are kept in seawater tanks and released to the sea in the night. This Hatchery alone has released more then
1,750,000 young turtles to the sea. An endowment by the Hasselblad Estate was responsible for the establishment of this hatchery.

Airport - Kandy (3 Hr/ 120 Kms) City Tour: While on your city tour, you will visit one of the world heritages as well as a sacred place for the Buddhists all over the world; namely the Temple of tooth Relic known to the Sri Lankans as Dalada Maligawa. Your next visit will be to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens which is a paradise for nature lovers. This beautiful flower Eden is restored with over 300 different varieties of orchids, other spices, medicinal plants and Palm trees. Every year more than 1.2 million people are enchanted by the beauty of these 147 acre flower gardens. The real evidence of the richness will be affirmed by your visit to the Gem Museum. Sri Lanka produces the finest quality of gems in the world including the semi-precious gems, the sapphires of Sri Lanka, which are exclusive and comes in shades of blue, red, green, white etc. In the evening, you will witness a traditional cultural dance show. Kandy - Nuwara Eliya (90 Kms/ 3 Hr) During the city tour in Nuwara Eliya, you will visit the main attractions of the town which include the golf course, trout streams, Victoria Park and boating or fishing on Lake Gregory. You can also visit a working tea factory where the slow-growing tea bushes of this highland region produce some of the world's finest Orange Pekoe tea. You may also visit Seetha Eliya and Haggala Gardens. Seetha Eliya is a temple which was mentioned in the famous epic Ramayana. Nuwara Eliya - Yala (200 kms/5 hrs) Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka. With monkeys crashing through the trees, peacocks in their finest frocks, elephants ambling about and cunning leopards sliding like shadows through the undergrowth, Yala National Park (also known as Ruhunu) is the Jungle Book brought to glorious life. This vast region of dry woodland and open patches of grasslands is the big draw of this corner of Sri Lanka. A safari here is well worth all the time, effort, crowds and cost.

Yala - Bentota (6 Hrs/ 250 Kms) City tour: On your city tour, you will enjoy a boat ride along the Madhu River. It is a scenic tour, relaxing and interesting while passing many islets forested with mangroves and experience the natural rhythms as well. If you are looking for more exclusive experience, visit the turtle hatchery too. The Turtle Hatchery is the prime turtle nesting site which was open by the Wild life Protection Society in 1981. Visitors can see huge tanks filled with new born turtle hatchlings. It is known as the oldest fort in Asia, named as a world heritage by UNESCO. Inside the fort, travelers can find other attractions such as the Dutch Museum, which contains paintings, pictures and furniture of the Dutch Reformed Church. The fort is built on small peninsula that can be easily accessed from the Galle town. It is the best place to visit during an evening as the picturesque scenery of the sunset can be witnessed at its best. The trilingual inscription is in the National Museum in Colombo and a copy can be found in the Maritime Museum in Galle.

Bentota - Nuwara Eliya
Transfer from Bentota to Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya - The ?Little England? of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coolest places in the Island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence, houses like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.
The Victoria Park, in the middle of the town, is a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic and is also good for Birding as you get some rare birds in this Park.
Seasons may be absent elsewhere in Sri Lanka, but here you can read them by the flowers, which bloom in the spring (march to May) and the fall (August and September). These are the ?seasons? when low-country folk flock to Nuwara Eliya to escape the sea level heat and humidity.

Today visit to Nuwara-Eliya is the town base for visits to Horton Plains National Park.
The journey from Nuwara-Eliya to Horton Plains only takes an hour. Horton Plains National Park is the only Nations Park situated in the hill country and the highest plateau in the island consisting of grassland interspersed with patches of forest, with some unusual high altitude vegetation and an excellent excursion and a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and bird watching.
It falls within the Nuwara-Eliya District 200Km away from Colombo, the capital city. The panoramic beauty of the hill country is witnessed within the park. The Plains are a beautiful, silent, strange world with some excellent walks.
The grassy plains still host many other wild lives. Species found here include Leopard, Sambar and the endemic Purple-faced Langur. Endemic highland birds include Dull-blue Flycatcher, Sri Lanka White-eye, and Yellow-eared Bulbul.
The most stunning place is the World's End, where the southern Horton Plains suddenly ends, and drops off to nearly 1050 meters, when is an awesome sight indeed. This shear drop offers a breathtaking view of the land below on clear days. This is a favorite place fro trekkers, as there are plenty of soft and hard trails.
Early morning visits are essential, both to see the wildlife and to view World's End before mists close in during the later part of the morning.
