A family home designed for groups - a good one too !
review of white house resort: just walking distance from the main gate of the famous river side school, this new villa is set up on a steep slope in a residential area with good views. The slope to the "hotel" is rather steep and i for one decided to take up my car using reverse gear. The sheltered porch of the house was permanently occupied by a bmw car. It could be that of a guest or the owner, but what that meant was we had to always park ours away and walk in the rain to the foyer. The property is managed by a family group of which all of them pitch in. The patriarch doubles as the front desk and life is hard for him ( and us) as he is bit hard of hearing - but he is eager to tell stories of movie stars who frequent the property and the big fat billing he makes ( his good luck i am not from the income tax dept), then they have rooms done up hotel style. Since they are new, they have lovely bathroom fittings and generous hot water from geysers. The windows are climatically sealed and keep the rain and wind out. This is certainly a good option, if you are a large family of say, 4 or 5 couples and children to do one of those indian holidays together. In fact the staff were recovering from one such interlude by an nri family, who the patriarch informed spent lakhs rupees and ate many merry meals. There is not much by way of common space, but they do have a large garden which can be fun in good weather. The homestyle food was good and the staff willing to be friendly, though one could make out that it is not their natural countenance. All in all, if you can afford it spend a little more and stay in a heritage hotel, after all you drove all the way for such an experience. However if on the other hand, you plan to do touristy stuff outside or came to meet your unfortunate kid in the boarding school, sure, stay here. It is clean, safe, friendly and serves good food.
