We had a very good time at Gateway Varkala and it’s located at the centre of Papnasam beach and Varkala cliff. Hopefully once the renovations are completed, it’ll be even better a place.

Beautiful property with good hospitality from all staff.Stay which I will cherish .Toddler friendly with very humble behaviour from everyone.They took an extra care of us as I went with my one year baby.Such an amazing view from my room .Receptionist ,Restaurant team were excellent.Totally recommend it to people planning to visit Varkala.

Unfortunately, my experience at the hotel was not as expected. Here are some of the issues I faced during my stay: I had specifically booked a room with a queen bed, but was provided with twin beds instead. The TV was not working properly, and despite attempts to use it, the issue remained unresolved. The tissue box was empty when I checked in, and it was only replaced upon request. The hot water facility was not up to the mark, making it inconvenient during my stay. These issues were disappointing and did not match the standards promised at the time of booking. I request you to kindly look into this matter and take necessary actions to ensure better experiences for future customers.

Our stay at Gateway, Varkala was absolutely fantastic! The place is truly awesome — beautifully maintained, neat, and inviting. The staff members are exceptionally welcoming, always greeting us with a warm smile that made us feel right at home. What really stood out was their extra effort to make our experience special. They went above and beyond by decorating our room with balloons and cake to surprise Avyan on his birthday — such a thoughtful and memorable gesture! Overall, it was a lovely stay, and we enjoyed every moment thoroughly. A big thank you to the entire Gateway, Varkala team for their hospitality and kindness. Keep up the great work — you’ve certainly earned our appreciation! Looking forward to visiting again!

Location - Not near to beach but overlooking beach Swimming pool - Good Restaurant/ Room service - Very slow. We had to cancel our order twice because of the poor room service. Needs a lot of reminders.

Beautiful property, pretty clean and peaceful stay.The staff is incredibly polite and efficient.At walking distance to both south and north cliff beaches.They also got us a photo framed which was pretty sweet.Got us checked-in early too.Breakfast spread was slightly limited but it tasted well. PS : We got surprised by an in-house peacock greeting in our balcony which was a sight to see.

Pleasant Stay with Room for Small Improvements

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The people were warm and welcoming, the environment was lovely, the weather was perfect, the food was great, and the service was generally very good. We truly have no major complaints. That said, a few areas could be improved to enhance the guest experience even further: Fitness Facility – It would be great to have access to a basic fitness center or gym on the premises. Customer-Centric Mindset – While the staff were courteous, there’s room to empower them more. For instance, small gestures like serving a cup of tea just a few minutes outside the scheduled high-tea window can go a long way in delighting guests. Room Allocation Accuracy – I had booked a "Deluxe Twin Bed Room With Balcony" for my kids, but was assigned a room with a Queen bed instead. It’s a minor issue, but attention to such details would improve satisfaction. Check-in Process – During check-in, we were initially assigned rooms and then asked to move to different ones shortly after. It felt a bit disorganized and could be streamlined for a smoother arrival experience. Bathroom Privacy – The room had a glass panel separating the bedroom and bathroom, with only a curtain on the bedroom side for privacy. While this setup may suit couples, it could be uncomfortable in other scenarios. A more privacy-conscious design would be appreciated. Breakfast Variety – The breakfast spread felt limited in terms of variety. Offering a wider selection would better cater to different preferences and enhance the overall dining experience. Apart from these, everything else was truly enjoyable.

property is under renovation unlike other taj properties the amenities the rooms and even the breakfast was bit disappointing nothing special was there which keep them ahead of a normal hotel the only thing which kept apart was the staff response was very prompt and they were very helpfull

First, both the restaurant and reception were under maintenance during my visit, which made the overall experience less convenient. Additionally, the swimming pool was missing tubes, and when I requested some, I was informed that they had been ordered but were not available during my stay. Furthermore, the furniture in my room was quite old and didn’t meet the high standards I expected from a Taj property. The room’s overall condition did not reflect the luxury I anticipated, and the value for money was not what I had hoped for.

My stay at Gateway Varkala was a great experience. The hospitality was one of the best I have experienced. The location is adequately positioned in a quiet and serene spot yet just walking distance away from the beach and 5 mins drive away from other getaway spots. The breafast buffet had limited items but the taste and quality was good. Rooms were very spacious. Overall an awesome experience. Worth visiting again!
