Location: - Bad part: Not good especially if you take your car and/or have more luggage as it is very inaccessible. Narrow/steep hill road which stops about 100m from the resort. No place to park car. The sea water is dirty and stinking at this place. Highly commercialized beach and is overhead. I've seen much cleaner beaches elsewhere and Kovalam in general and Light House Beach in particular does not live up to its hype. - Good part: It is overlooking the light house beach and right next to the lighthouse. Service: Below par as it is understaffed and the tries to do everything (other than the kitchen work, perhaps). The owner-manager asked me to drive down to a neighboring building (which is directly accessible by road), park there temporarily (for offloading luggage). That was a scary place to park (even temporarily) as there were pillars in the way and it was quite a circus to park the car without scratching it against a pillar. After offloading luggage, I was made to park the car about a km away in an open ground (with oral assurance that it is ok). He then dropped me back at the "resort" on his scooter. The next day I parked the car in another ground which is about half km from the resort with his oral assurance that it is OK. When I went to pick my car next morning for checkout, I found a dent in the car (apparently some other car was involved but I have no way to know). I informed the owner-manager immediately and showed him the dent but he refused to help in any way and simply said we don't know who did it. When hot water supply failed during the stay, the only help that I got is half bucket of hot water from the kitchen but we had to wait for it. A significant amount of our vacation time was wasted in the room due to such bad/broken facilities. Already I was feeling I overpaid for the room and the dent in the car made it an even more expensive stay, not to mention the agony and inconvenience I faced while staying here. Room: Not good. Nothing in the room was working properly. Two bamboo chairs were broken and no soap rack in the bathroom. No soap rack in the bathroom and I had to be behind him (following which he fixed some glass sheet with sharp edges). The sliding doors to the balcony were not locking (which means the room was effectively open from the balcony). Even the main door lock handle was of such low quality that I was checking whether the room was locked properly and the handle came into my hand. The only response I got is that he will fix it later; no apology, no explanation. He also threatened to penalise us for the door handle (though he actually didn't). Then suddenly hot water stopped and I got some vague response that cold water got mixed with hot water so he is helpless. Even the lights in the room were not working properly and the room was darkish after switching on all lights (as if we had only night lamp on). I was already tired of the owner-manager's lame responses and did not report the light problem. All the fittings in the room including door handles/latches are of cheap quality (cheap/weak metal or plastic). Facilities: No on-site parking. He may show you an off-site parking but it is not safe. Refer to the service experience above. Resort is not directly accessible from road (which itself is narrow and steep). Value for money: No one deserves such stay even for free. We go on vacation to have a nice stay, not to be behind them continuously for basic facilities. Cleaniness: Below average. Overall: This is a homestay aspiring to be a resort and it neither has a friendly service like a homestay nor a professional service like a resort. It's the worst of both. They appear to be trying to help but the unprofessional management comes in the way. Apparently only money matters to them, not the customer's satisfaction as they get business anyway because of the location overlooking lighthouse beach (and aggregators like Makemytrip). Not sure how Makemytrip is listing this place which such bad facilities and unprofessional service. Stay away!
