Beautiful location nestled between coffee and tea plantations. If you are a nature lover, you will definitely like this place. During our stay we were able to spot Hornbill, Malabar squirrel and few other birds. This place is located few KMS outside Gudalur town, so will be ideal if you have your own transport. Rooms are of decent size, neat and tidy. Only one blanket provided per room, if you are a bigger group you may have to carry you own or request for additional blankets. Not much amenities with in this facility, however they can organise trekking on request. Caretakers are very friendly and helpful.

This Resort is good with overall features. Firstly the staff are too good and cooperative, attitude is pretty good. Rooms can be better though they are fairly OK. The stay with friends can be superb .. But with family, they need to work out in terms of cleanliness I. E. Things can be better. The Food are simple and good .. Overall I am pretty happy with my stay ..

There are quite a few resorts in and the surrounding areas of Masinagudi. Some of the resorts are downright simple budget resorts with just rooms & meals as offering, while others offer luxurious facilities like swimming pool and Jacuzzi in addition to accommodation/meals. So for a visitor, the challenge is to wade through the tons of information & choose the resort that best fits his/her budget & comfort-levels. Often, this can be quite confusing as online material describing the resorts tends to exaggerate, while going through outspoken agents have similar pit-falls. One among them is the "Jungle Trailz" resort. But what differentiates this from the numerous others in the vicinity, is the value-for-money & safety. Situated at Achakarai, a few kilometers from Masinagudi town, the resort with its rustic look is quite charming and at the same time has the requisite facilities to make it a comfortable and memorable stay. The rooms are well kept, very tidy & spacious enough to comfortably accommodate a small family of four members without being claustrophobic. The meals/snacks offered (separately charged) are average but hygienic and is a typical combination of South Indian fare. But what surprised me was the lack of variety and the refusal to make evening snacks. The other facilities offered by the resort are Camp-fire & Jungle safari (separately charged), indoor and out-door games, etc. Though the resort staff & management are quite friendly and are ever-helpful, what could make this an even better experience for the guests would be the "customer-service" touch. At the moment, the resort operations are run by an experienced member of the staff, so the holistic resort experience is missing. There are some subtle touches that a professional resort-manager can provide to enhance the experience - like good sign-boards leading to the resort, with the guests regarding facilities/food, welcome drink, latterly food/snacks arrangements, a few hammocks to relax, wildlife related books to read and wildlife pictures for ambience, offering paid-services for intervening walks/tours with a naturalist, Tribal interaction, offer of Ooty tour (Ooty is just 30 kms from Masinagudi), A word of caution: Please do not fall prey to offers of main-road, forest or night safaris from touts or shady operators. You will find these touts in hoards right at the entrance to Masinagudi town (near the forest check-post), making tall promises of wildlife safari and sure-shot sightings - and they do not let you pass unless you pull over to haggle with them. Most of these touts operate illegally without permission/license to enter the forest zone and are not equipped to handle wildlife situations. If you are caught by the forest department venturing into the reserve illegally, the likely fine for the offense ranges from 5k to 50k!

There was a issue with the booking. Even though it was confirmed for me, the hotel said they hadn't received a confirmation from makemytrip and they had already given my room to someone else. But in spite of all this confusion, the Manager managed to sorted things out and made sure we has a good experience. The dinner served was very good. Definitely a highlight of the trip.

Wonderful location, great staff and good food. Stayed at the four bed wood house which was a nice experience. The price for the stay as well as the food was very reasonable. Both Bandipur and mudumalai are easily accessible from this location. Highly recommend this place!

The cot was not at all good, you can literally feel the springs of the mattress poke you. Old bathroom fittings and interiors. The only good point is that the room is big, outside garden is beautiful and there is a play area. As beautiful as the room looks from the outside, that much bad its on the inside. Service is not good. Manager was hostile because we checked in late at 10:30 pm!!! Overall not satisfied.

Nestled in the lap of nature at the foothills of the Nilgiris, Kings Wild Retreat is an expansive resort comprising many buildings spread over a decently large area. The resort is surrounded by greenery on three sides and at times also gets its share of unwanted visits from the local wild elephant population (In fact there are signs advising guests not to wander outside after 6 pm). We stayed in the Deluxe rooms. There are only three such rooms. Rooms were basic but nice (Pros - large rooms, comfortable bed, storage shelf, TV, fan, Aircon aircon was there in only one of the rooms, not all), large attached bathroom that even had a Bathtub! Cons - no Aircon in all rooms, no fridge, no tea-coffee maker, no separate wardrobe or clothes rack other than the storage shelf, no safe, ironing board or any other in-room amenities, no Wi-Fi). Some of the cons are actually pros if one is looking to get away from the madding crowd. We did not miss most of the things that were missing. The only reason I'm mentioning these is because they are usually standard in most city resorts within this price range. However, as the resort is about 15 km from the Mudumalai safari booking centre and in a somewhat remote area, its USP is different and therefore many of these deficiencies can be overlooked. There was also a covered verandah in front of the room with a table and chairs. Food was served here - while there was a separate dining area in another building, we did not need to go there. It was a really nice experience on the whole. What stood out for us was the attitude of the staff, especially the manager, Mr. Suman. Everyone was super cooperative. In fact Mr. Suman even said that their objective was to ensure that every guest leaves with a smile. In this they succeeded, although the stay was not perfect by any yardstick. For one, they are short sighted. There seemed to be only two bell boys to bring stuff or take orders. Considering that it was the Christmas extended weekend and the resort was full, this meant that things fell through the cracks when it came to service. The staff kept forgetting parts of our orders and on at least one occasion there was so much lag between bringing the first item of food and the last item that we had finished our meal by the time they brought the last item. On the whole, we felt there were training issues with the service staff as well - simple things like bringing along with the food cutlery, serving bowls, salt and pepper, were missed. This happened with every meal. To give them credit, the staff were quick to rectify any deficiency as soon as it was pointed out. Hence while there is definitely scope for improvement in service, we would still recommend the Kings Wild Retreat for a stay near Masinagudi (the resort is not in Masinagudi town but a few kms down the Masinagudi-Ooty shortcut road).
