Money minded and untrained staff

groupWhen we arrived at 8 pm, the power was out, so everything was running on an inverter, which was understandable. However, there was no mobile charging option available on the inverter. Power issues are common in kashmir, so please keep this in mind when choosing this houseboat. When the power came back, just 30 mins after that (at 9:30 pm, the staff asked us to switch off all the lights in the common area and go to our rooms to sleep. We didn't understand this reasoning, as the power had returned, yet they insisted we turn off the lights and retire for the night. We had to call the owner to address the situation with the staff. Despite this intervention, i would not recommend this houseboat as the staff appeared untrained. If you have kids or infants, avoid this place entirely. We have a 2-year-old, and while we received excellent support for our child's food needs throughout srinagar, this houseboat charged us just for boiling a potato. We provided the raw potato and the utensil, yet they still charged us. The management here seems very focused on extracting money in any way possible.

Thank you for your comments which have been very informative. During the unavoidable power cut you were informed that we could charge your phones if required. At no time were you requested to turn off the lights and retire to your rooms. Our workers requested that while the backup inverter was being used to turn some (not all) of the lights off, although power cuts don't usually last long it is important to ensure that the inverter is used efficiently. Every light was on in the Houseboat, end to end. We also request all guests to be mindful of making loud noise late at night so as to avoid disturbing other guests. Being Jain you had brought your own food to consume, you requested the cooking of a potato and came to the kitchen to supervise the cooking of this potato in our pressure cooker. You gave a dish for the preparation of your child's food and again supervised, giving instructions on how to prepare this. THERE WAS NO CHARGE FOR THIS WHATSOEVER, the only charge was for the milk provided for your children, it seems very unfair to be labelled as 'money minded, when the only extra charge was for the above mentioned milk. We always try our best to be as accommodating as possible to all our guests wishes.

familyBoat was good, good interior, quite decorative but the caretaker was very rude. He just want guest to move out as quickly as could.
