Zostel Banikhet (Dalhousie)

I had one of the worst experiences at Zostel. From the moment I arrived, the receptionist was shockingly rude and completely unprofessional — no greeting, no help, just pure attitude. It felt like I was an inconvenience rather than a guest. The hospitality was non-existent. No one seemed to care about guest comfort or basic manners. The common areas were dirty, poorly maintained, and nothing like the pictures. My room was equally disappointing — dusty sheets, broken fittings, and no sense of cleanliness. When I tried to bring up my concerns, the staff either ignored me or behaved rudely again. The whole place lacked warmth, service, and even basic courtesy. Definitely not the kind of vibe you’d expect from a hostel that promotes “community and comfort.” I wouldn’t recommend this Zostel to anyone. There are far better places that actually value their guests. Avoid this one at all costs!

A peaceful place offering an amazing view that you can sit there for hours. The sunset point near the location is a cherry on the top. People managing this place are humble and very helpful. Being a solo traveller, I found this place safe and cheerful.

Very bad stay and service. No handle in washroom.. Common area washrooms were terrible. Swimming pool was not clean. No food service. Only self service

I did not even stay here as i booked a bed and realised it’s a female only one and when asked to change there was no availability so i was asked to write an email for refund. I wish i will get it

Zostel at banikhet: the property is located in a very serene location untouched by the commercialisation. They have a swimming pool, cafe, jhoola, and lots of reading corners and seating arrangements. There are good books stacked for bookworms. I absolutely loved staying here and it’s my first solo trip as a woman and meeting fellow solo travellers here made me open up more into enjoying solitude. The host roshan is very helpful and friendly and suggested places to visit in and around dalhousie.

I recently had the misfortune of staying at Zostel Banikhet, and I must say it was a complete letdown. The location is one of the biggest drawbacks - it's a whopping 6km away from the town, making it difficult to access nearby attractions. The nearest place to visit is Mall Road in Dalhousie, which is still a significant distance away. The isolation of the hostel makes it feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. To make matters worse, I booked private room and it was not upto mark of zostel you can get way better option in this price range. In the common area there was no vibe even on weekend during my stay, which was extremely off-putting. The pool, which was one of the reasons I booked this hostel, was dirty and unusable. But views are great but still not worthy. Overall, I would not recommend Zostel Banikhet to anyone. The lack of location, poor maintenance, and uncleanliness make it one of the worst hostels I've stayed in. There are far better options available in Dalhousie.

It's an amazing stay. Totally safe for female solo travelers. Recommended to all solo travelers out there.

Would have rated 5 stars but the dormitory was too hot. Rest all good. Views offered by property were very good. The common area was too lively. Property was beautiful and looked too good. Nothing much to do around and banikhet to Dalhousie cab would cost you ₹250-300 one way. But we were on a staycation, so this wasn’t much of a problem. There are some public transport options however not abundant.
