Srikalahasti Temple
The Srikalahasti Temple is one of the Panchabhoota Sthalams, representing the element of air through its sacred Vayu Linga.
Legend says Lord Shiva created a whirlwind to protect his devotee, giving the town its name ‘Kalahasti’—merging kala (serpent), hasti (elephant), and spider who worshipped here.
The towering Gopuram rebuilt after 2010 stands 120 ft high and dominates the skyline along the Swarnamukhi River.
Inside the Pathala Ganapathi Cave shrine, devotees crawl down 20 narrow steps to seek blessings of the rock-cut Ganesha.
Thousands perform the unique Rahu-Ketu Puja daily to ward off astrological doshas.
During Maha Shivaratri Brahmotsavam (Feb–Mar) the deity is taken on a flower-decked silver chariot around four concentric streets.
Temple Timings: Morning – 5:30 am to 1:00 pm | Evening – 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm
