Kedarnath Temple
Known as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, the temple is located at an altitude of 3,583 m in the Garhwal Himalayas near Mandakini River. It’s an essential part of both the Char Dham and Panch Kedar pilgrimages.
Believed to have been built by the Pandavas and later renovated by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, the temple stands strong despite enduring natural calamities.
Its unique carved stone structure is a testament to ancient Himalayan architecture, set against the backdrop of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, adding to its divine appeal.
Every year, thousands of devotees trek to this holy site to seek blessings or opt for a helicopter ride, pony ride, or palanquin for a more comfortable journey. Helicopter services are available from Phata, Guptkashi, and Sersi to Kedarnath for a quicker and scenic trip.
The 16-km trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Temple is a popular and scenic route. The path, through dense forests, glaciers, and waterfalls, is a medium-to-steep climb.
