The best place to stay as a family

Sundara Mahal is true to its name. The homestay is not just accommodation but a home away from home. The warm welcoming enthusiastic hosts made our stay memorable. The house is a bungalow located just outside Kalpetta Town. It is surrounded by trees with a badminton court in the front courtyard. It has two guest rooms. The rooms are very comfortable and offer you the necessary privacy. The house has the majestic grandeur and takes you to the childhood memories of a visit to your ancestral house. The ambiance is serene, soothing and meditative and maintained meticulously. It is a book lover's delight with a number of books on varied topics all over the house. A number of board games are also available for children. The delicious food is prepared by the Prabha herself, after carefully considering the guests' individual preferences. It is an immersion and enjoyable experience to sit by the kitchen and converse with our hosts while the food is being prepared. Murali with his keen insight on varied topics topped with a great sense of humor is a delight to converse with. The couple is very warm and caring with the children. The pets (3 dogs and 2 cats) are everyone's delight. Prabha also provided us with possible itineraries for each day, which was very useful to plan the visits to the tourist attractions in Wayanad. Alas, as all good things come to an end, we had to say our goodbyes with a heavy heart and a longing to spend more time at Sundara Mahal.

I arrived in Kalpetta on a work trip with little clue as to what to expect, and in need of help with logistics and contacts. Prabha was amazing she helped me find my way around, connected me with people who could help, and was a perfect host. The home is a stunning heritage building, full of the most amazing objects and architectural details. There is a beautiful garden with splendid flowers, and it's cool even when it's hot outside. The food was excellent, and so was the conversation with the hosting couple like I had known them for a Long time. When I was a kid, visiting my grandma in the mountains in South Italy in summer, I used to be so amazed by fireflies and try to catch them. So now, wherever I See them there's plenty in new York in summer, for instance I always feel at home. At Sundara Mahal, I didn't just See one in the garden I found one lighting up by the bathroom ceiling one night. I took it of as the ultimate sign that I was right to feel at home. If you are ever Around Kalpetta, don't Miss the chance to stay here. You'll be happy you did.

A place for those who love 'Home'. Excellent hosts. It is very near to all the tourists' atractions near by, but far away from all distractions. Chance to taste Malayalee food for those coming from places other than Kerala. As the hosts are also living there with you the feeling of hotel is totally not there. Good for those who seek peace in this mad crowd.

Excellent experience. Personal attention. Extremely well maintained and beautiful property. Lots of books and games as well. They even guided to plan our itinerary for three days. Overall we had a calm and peaceful stay with kids.

Wonderful hospitality spic and span atmosphere with lots of greenery around homely vegetarian food superb guidance for outing easy to locate in short you feel home far away from home with lovely people around we can see good amount of coin collections and court of toys.

Good food good music and good conversation. Our trip to Wayanad was a pleasant one I say this because Wayanad itself is an incredible place and also because the hosts at our homestay were warm and welcoming. The three days spent at sundara Mahala were very calming Not only is the bungalow beautiful it is also home to three of the most interesting people I have met. There is the lady of the house Prabha aunty who is kind understanding and patient. There is murali uncle who I think can be best described as a storyteller with loads of interesting information and facts to share Then there is the lovely paati. She is also very soft spoken and accommodative The mother daughter duo cook the yummiest and best food To conclude my tiny rant about Sundara Mahala only three things come to mind. Good food.

I had visited this guest house with my family. The transportation facility was not provided by the guest house. The guest house was located in the city. The guest house was value for money. There was all the facility provided in the room in working condition The provided room was very good at the guest house The overall experience of the guest house was good.

The stay was extraordinary Hosts Prabha Murali and mother superior Amma instantly make you feel at home and hence at ease One feels like he s gone back to his ancestral home and not theirs The place is steeped in history and the hosts patiently indulge you. The food is par excellence and the best time is dinner time which for us easily stretched beyond 2hrs. Thanks to the lively conversations around it Cosy rooms with every need taken care of and super comfortable and neat Fantastic location easy driving distance from all tourist attractions.

This was like visiting family. The hosts Prabha and Murly are extremely helpful and the whole house is thrown open. Food family and hospitality are the best we have ever experienced in all our travels. Not to mention the huge collection of books friendly dogs kids loved them and long discussions on various topics One of the few places where we felt sad at departure time.

Easily accessible located at the centre. Ambience was very good surrounded by greenery Well ventilated and clean rooms Ever smiling very hospitable hosts. Tasty sumptuous vegetarian food cooked in clean and hygienic conditions. Ample area for children to play and to adults alike From the time we landed till we bid adieu it was a very pleasant stay. Will be etched in our memories Definitely recommend to family and friends.

Spacious room inside the Mahal quiet place and hence sound sleep good hospitality great food and good location Sundara Mahal has a good space right in front for any fun activities or simply relaxing. The hall inside also has a lot of history to it along with quite a few interesting books to read. Feeding and spending time with the pets dogs was a good experience for the kids Since this place is in Kalpetta had the advantage of proximity to most of the tourist attractions in Wayanad Overall a good experience and highly recommended.

We had a great opportunity to stay with Murali Prabha Prabha s mother and their son Vishnu at Sundara Mahal Kalpetta Wayanad and we must say that this was one of the wonderful choices that we have made in the recent past till date The decision of staying at Sundara Mahal was not a planned one and we were contemplating on where to spend a short holiday The holiday at Sundara Mahal was exceptional the hospitality care love and the warmth that Murali Prabha and family shared with us can never be measured and it is indeed the best and the most memorable aspect of this holiday. We never felt that we were away from home and we now feel we have found our long lost family and friends Not to forget a special mention about Vishnu who is so full of life and joyful and made our stay more meaningful by sharing his medical college narratives. The drive way to Sundara Mahal is thick with vegetation. The whole area is fertile and unspoiled and home to a wide variety of birds and animals Sundara Mahal is full of various books an amazing mini library Murali is so informative that he can chat on any topic that one is interested Murali shared so many jokes that we were laughing most of our times together. Even today we go over those again and again and keep laughing. The lovely dogs add to the excellent ambience The finest of the places that we have been to Sundara Mahal is maintained so clean and it is completely hygienic The pure veg food is so tasty and the delicacies prepared by Prabha and amma are next to none The happiness and love they spread is something that you don t get to see very often with people you meet for the first time We absolutely and strongly recommend this guest house if you are looking for meeting some great people and a have a great vacation No two thoughts in short Home away from home with extended family.

I will try to keep count of the reasons why my trip to Sundara Mahal in Wayanad turned out to be a memorable one First Prabha Murali and Amma are wonderful people to be with They are simple gracious and welcoming I remain grateful for their friendship and affection. Second the estate is a lovely place to be in The house is very tastefully done and an example of what understated style and comfort mean The premises the trees flowers and vegetation are soothing to the soul. Third the food offered within the house is tasty and a revelation especially for a philistine like me who had a pathetically limited conception of what Keralite vegetarian food could be As for the food outside the house I have become addicted no shame in admitting it to the parota and the range of non vegetarian splendours available commonly everywhere Fourth the weather as I experienced it right before the monsoons and from what I understand it to be throughout the year is not just pleasant but a pleasure Fifth the combination of space I had for myself and the delightful company of the family made the balance just perfect for a holiday where I had solitude but was never lonely Sixth there is the wonder of Kerala to be explored outside the homestay and the daylong drive I went for was a sight to behold It is a beautiful state no two ways about it The beauty to add is of the more consistent kind rather than the ravishing sort and it is an ambience that stays with you in everything you do Seventh my long conversations with Murali and the relatively shorter ones with Murali and Prabha on just about everything under the sun gave me great perspective on the business of living Eighth the hundreds of gigabytes of movies I picked up from Murali give me great company evening after evening That s eight for the moment. I am sure to pick up another eight when I go there next which should be pretty soon Do go there and keep your own count of all the reasons why you would like to keep going back to the heaven that Sundara Mahal is.

We family of 3 with 3 year old kid stayed at Sundara Mahal in first week of May This was our first homestay and what a memorable time We did not feel outsiders as Prabha and family made stay so much comfortable. It is best place to relax given surrounding peaceful environment and greenery. And top of that getting veg food was liking icing on cake.

Everything about this place is soo beautiful Prabha Mam murali sir Patti every single person is so much of life Guests are treated like family and there was not a minute where we missed our home They had variety of activities like shuttle carom loads and loads of books and games for kids and so on. The food was cooked with so much love and care. The rooms are very clean and toilets are neat Hosts are very kind and helpful and prabha mam never misses one single chance to impress and mesmerism the guests. We came back with real good memories We are planning to take our extended family soon.

We had a very good stay at Sundara Mahal Amazing hospitality and fresh homes cooked food. The house with its lush green open space and so down to earth immensely knowledgeable hosts leave no stone unturned in making the trip memorable one Plan to visit again.

We had stayed in this place with my family for two days. It is wonderful place and the hospitality is superb The owners are very good and take care of our requirement with good care Our children enjoyed very much Our hosts Prabha Murali and Prabha s mother were really good and we feel like stayed in our relatives house.
