Caris Brook

The phrase, hidden gem, is thrown around far too easily in travel reviews nowadays. In my opinion, something isn't hidden if it's one of the top rated properties by traveler rank, and it isn't a gem if it doesn't merit at least 4 stars on 5. Caris Brook satisfied both those criteria for us. We went there with our infant to escape the noise and pollution of diwali fireworks. As a farmhouse located on a 16-acre property on a quiet broad near Mysore Airport, this is was the perfect getaway for us. Completely quiet with none of the din of the city (no traffic, no horns, no construction noise), and even firecrackers on were just an occasional, faint pop in the distance. And yet, this place is just a 10-minute drive once you exit Mysore on the highway to Nanjangud/Ooty. There are cottages and a villa, but we had the entire property completely to ourselves. The caretaker and his family were attentive and helpful, and the vegetarian meals that they cooked for us were absolutely delicious. The baby loved spending time outdoors amidst the greenery. The stream that flows through the property was a welcome attraction for us. Indoors, we found the sleeping and living areas to be clean, and well maintained. The decor, though not elaborate or ornate, is still simple and pleasant. A word of warning, though if you prefer to have a lot of activities and fun and games catered to you, like most big resorts tend to offer, this might not be the place for you. If, however, you can keep yourself busy, say, reading a book, going on walks, or just unwinding in the tranquil settings of the farm, then you're likely to enjoy this as much as we did.

A very good resort, good ambience, custom preparation of food and finally it was a fantastic experience.

The host & his staff were excellent - ever willing to please. The bathroom had no fixtures to hang clothes or a towel therefore not functional. Very limited food choices and only vegetarian that I do not remember being warned about. Being in the middle of nowhere, it was difficult to even go out for a walk given the poor roads while travelling with young children.

This is not the home stay you can go alone and stay. If you have planned to go by seeing this online review think 100 times. I really had worst experience, the road construction was happening and the person in charge was not at all reachable, we had to ask everyone to reach and the welcome was worst indeed. Please think 100 times before you book.

Very well maintained Farm house with 4 Guest houses. Owner is friendly. The caretaker is a very friendly and caring. He cooks really tasty food. The property is bit away from main road (having own vehicle is a must) but that makes it a great place to relax. We had a great holiday here.

Caris Brook situated almost 15 km from Mysore Railway Junction. If your driver don't know about the location its not easily accessible. And don't use GPRS to find out the location I have used it which made me travel 15 km more (It shows wrong location on GPRS with the name Caris Brook ). Hotel is nice, good maintenance, with very helpful staff especially Mr. Suresh who is a care taker of the place. Nice home made food. Spacious cottages. Only 4 cottages in this property. Even Mr. Rohan (owner) is very helpful. But the trip I will remember for the only reason of Mr. Suresh helpfulness. Overall, good experience. Can go for it if you want a relaxed stay away from city and to be isolated. But please remember to visit with your own vehicle is the only advise.
